Hi Chris.

Lovely tree. Is this of the same specie as the one we saw at Bobs garden? He said they are crab apples but the leaves are much larger than this one.

This is a Japanese import, the one's at Bobs were most likely native crab's if there is such a thing. they are all a malus of some sort and most of them make good bonsai
