Hi guys ... My name is Mike ,, i live in Green Bay WI .... Im sorta new to bonsai ... i have done some reading ,, a few books ,, other fourms and so on .... I also have a few trees i baught around town ,, basic mallsai ... i just wanted to make sure i could keep a tree alive and well before i tryed my hand at this art-form .... so far i have a juniper ,, 2 fukien teas ,, 1 chinese elm ,, and a ficus i saved that was half dead when i baught it ... All my trees have lived and done well ,, knock on wood ... I have kept these trees for close to a year now ... I felt the need to keep at it ,, so this year i joind a local bonsai club ( I love it) ... I also took the class where we made our own juniper bonsai tree ... yesterday i went out a baught a juniper nana from the garden center ... i took my time and cleaned the tree up ,,, i started at the bottom of the tree and worked my way up ... I did the root prune on my own and the potting on my own ... i have to say im really happy with the bonsai tree that came outta that bush ... i didnt wanna do too much right off the bat ,, i have all the time in the world to work on this tree ,, but im really happy with the tree ... ill try and get some picks up altho my cam just took a dump ,, i found this out when i was tryin to get pics of some of my new trees ... So in time ill get some picks up ... im glad i found this fourm .... Very Happy

Hi Mike, Welcome to bonsai. Remember bonsai are like potato chips, no one can have just one.
You might want to try more outdoor trees that will survive in Green Bay. They can be more readily maintained.

Also look into getting your keyboard fixed, the period button sticks.

I dunno. Green Bay is USDA Zone 4b-5a, even colder than Central New York. Even junipers will require protection during the winter.
If you have managed to keep a couple of Fukien tea alive for a year, you might want to upgrade your indoor growing area for the long stretch of winter when the outdoor bonsai are dormant.
