Post  John Brocklehurst on Sat Dec 10, 2011 4:32 pm

I've just added a few pictures of pots and a re-worked root stand to my blog.
I took a picture of my new Ilex serrata on the root stand and ji ita.
Hope you like it.

Some goodies going to the Noelanders Trophy

Post  John Brocklehurst on Wed Jan 11, 2012 1:31 pm

A belated happy new year to everyone.

I've been busy making a few pieces for the Noelanders Trophy, which will be for sale on John Pitts stand, alongside his wonderful bonsai ceramics and paraphernalia.

Here are 3 elm ji ita that are finished, I'll try to add more pics as I get items finished, although I still need to tart up my trees that have been accepted for the show, so we'll have to see how things go.

Anyhoo, back to the pics:

Elm ji ita 200mm x 135mm

Elm ji ita 165mm x 135mm

Elm ji ita 165mm x 135mm

The pictures below are the boards that the ji itas were cut from.....I did promise you a while ago that I'd show you how they ended up Very Happy

Regards

John

hi john:

I've been following your thread with great interest and have even gone so far as to try my hand at making some small jiita. the results are humble, but satisfying. what tool/bit do you use to texture the edges of your boards? I assume the machine is a dremel or its equivalent. can you post a picture of the bits you use to get the stipple effect?

thanks and best wishes, sam

I've just finished a slightly taller root stand suitable for semi cascade and similar.
It's been a bit of a rush to get it finished in time for the British Shohin Association show this weekend, but I can relax now.

I've been promising myself one of these stands for ages but have only just gotten around to making one.

The stand is made from English elm and is 130mm diameter x 50mm high
I love the colours on the top of the stand, it's a shame to put a bonsai on there Very Happy

Cheers
John

Graham, see you up there later on, have a safe journey.

Johnny Boy.....yes I keep tripping over the walnut log in my garage so something is going to have to be done....sooner rather than later.
Hope your weekend goes well in Wales, sounds like it's going to be a very good event......steer clear of those sheep with long curly eyelashes....you know what happened last time...is it still on your record ? Laughing
