Which front???? Empty Which front????

Post  JimLewis Mon Apr 11, 2011 4:36 pm

This little Japanese maple broom is from a cutting taken in 2006 or thereabouts. I've been putting it into smaller and smaller pots. This antique japanese pot is probably going to be its home.

The pot is round, so it probably doesn't matter, but I'm debating over the front -- unscarred side or scarred side?

I'm surprised at this post Jim?. A choice between a side with some kind of nebari and a side with none and a bad hole? Bit of a no brainer!

That is an awesome little tree.

My first inclination was to go with the first picture, but I actually think that the second picture will end up being a better front in a few years. I also like the pot it is in, but think a shallow oval would suit this composition better. I hope you will update this thread next fall and winter so that we may see the autumn colors and the winter ramification. Thank you for sharing this tree with us.

Hi Jim
I wasn,t criticising your choice of pot,I think it is beautiful and would love it myself, but the tree is still young and in development and by putting it in an exihibition pot that small you are going to restrict that development. I keep only Mame trees and have found by keeping young trees in larger pots they mature and develope much quicker and when I think they have reached the the state of maturity I want they will then go into a Mame pot
