Edit: Oh jeez, I just realized I posted this in the wrong section of the forum. Embarassed Can a moderator move this to "Bonsai Questions"?

Hi folks, first time poster here and hopefully many to come in the future.
I have been lurked many forums for a few months now, sifting through heaps of information in order to find a suitable species that I can keep indoors. I ended up buying a pre-bonsai Brush Cherry (possibly a Syzygium Australe, because of the red tips) for cheap at a decent nursery and I'd like your thoughts on my current setup and if this is apt enough to sustain the plant. Any criticism (harsh/kind), advice or recommendation is most welcome and I am looking to learn as much as I can. Some things that might be useful for ya'll to know is that I am a typical starving university student Smile living in an apartment that is very small with no luxury of spending extravagant amounts of cash. Oh, and no balcony unfortunately. This is definitely not as elaborate as some who have shelfs, separate greenhouse, etc. So without further ado, the specs and pictures!

-kept in small sun-room with floor to ceiling windows on two out of four walls (this room is actually my "office" hah!)
-the room is quite warm during the day (25ish C) and drops too around 20ish C at night, is this too much variation for a Eugenia?
-shots were taken at night

-tiny little bugger ain't he?
-will probably need to re-pot sometime mid-spring into a larger pot so I can actually try and thicken the trunk
-i water when chopstick seems a bit dry when put in soil, but not completely dry
-white flecks on leaves are probably from using hard water? i'll be using distilled soon enough
-I've noticed some yellowing/browning at the leaves, any diagnosis from you knowledgeable bonsai artist?
-I have no idea what that yellow moss thing is, but I might take it off
-haven't done anything, no pruning, no wiring, nothing. just want to see if I can keep this one alive

The Cheapo Equipment

-the CFL is a 42W, putting out only 2,600 lumens but is compounded with my full wall ceiling to floor windows
-sadly the box doesn't tell me the temperature range, but it does say "daylight" so hopefully 6000k or above
-surprisingly, the light is blinding...but I guess what we humans see is not the same as what a plant needs
-my humidifier is a cool mist one....pretty cheap

The Setup

-Is the mist blowing into the plant ok?
-is my humidity tray large enough? I have read many posts that a humidity tray is just myth hehe
-the compact fluorescent light is about 4.5-5 inches away from the top foliage, should I move it further or closer?
-still lacking a fan, but will hopefully be remedied in the very near future

I think thats about it, phew.
Thanks for those who took the time to read through all this. I hope it wasn't to much of a drag.
Cheers!

Regardless of what you have heard the tree does not need the humidity, so get rid of the humidifier and the water covered rocks. The tree does need light. Clean off the top of the soil, get rid of the rocks and moss. More plants are killed by too much water than anything else. Use a meat skewer to probe the soil, if the skewer is wet don't water. Do you have somewhere this tree can be outside when threat of freeze/frost is over? Make sure that water does not stand in the tray.

Sadly I do not have an area outside where I can put this plant because I live in an apartment with no balcony. I will heed your advice and definitely remove the unnecessary rocks and moss. The humidity tray will be gone as well Smile. The plant gets around 16 hours of light from the fluorescent light-bulb augmented with whatever light comes through my huge windows.
My apartment is ridiculously dry (the weather over here in southern Ontario is still around 0 C) because my baseboard heaters and central air unit are still running once in awhile. Hopefully I can pick up a cheap hygrometer sometime this week to measure the humidity. But like you said, if this tree doesn't need much humidity I guess I should be fine. Thanks for your advice!
