Praying for Japan's recovery after the powerful earthquake Empty Praying for Japan's recovery after the powerful earthquake

I send my prayers and hopes for recovery to Japan; they have experienced one of their largest earthquakes on record. And to those who are in the path of the ensuing Tsunamis; please find high ground. Be safe. You are in our hearts!
Blessings,
Todd

US Navy in Peal Harbor reports tsunami's effects there were "negligible," at least for the first of several expected waves.

Not so along the north coast of Japan where many hundreds of deaths have been reported as of right now.

While our prayers and concerns lie with the people of Japan, the hundreds who have lost their lives, I was also worried if any of the bonsai especially the mature ones would be affected....

Bonsai are not important at all in this case. Life of humans are though. Just got a reply from Tomohiro Masumi in Kyoto were no effects of the earthquake has been present. He doesn't know how it is around Tokyo area yet.

I would expect TIm is at work sitting on a highway somewhere in Hawaii watching the waves hit the beach. We might not hear from him until this afternoon.

Keeping the people of Japan in my prayers, with a special prayer for our IBC brothers and sisters within the influence of the Pacific Ocean's current turbulence.

When things like this happens, I find it difficult to actually get a grasp of how bad it actually is.
Ive heard the waves at Hawaii were about 2 feet, and they came away without too much damage.

Hello all,
I am sure Ravi did not meant it the way it maybe look like it does.
The older bonsai from Japan represent a bit of the soul of the Japanese people,
There-fore,
"When the earth shakes, there will be things that never will be the same"
For me it is about the interest in what happens in the soul of the people concerned.

Peoples lives are indeed far more important than bonsai, but how could any of us not think of bonsai at this time?

This time next year, when the shock of the loss of human life has faded, we will be hearing tales of famous trees that have been lost, and remarking on how terrible the losses are to bonsai.

.....

I can easily not think about bonsai and what happens to them right now in Japan. Right now I do not care. I care about friends there.
I know later on we may talk about bonsai relating to the earthquake, but truly - it is about when you talk about it - and that is not now. Please.

I agree wholeheartedly with Morten. Even some of the news broadcast has distressed me with its uninformed insensitivity, repeatedly showing and describing a "whirlpool" that was clearly just a small temporary vortex formed by rushing waters, a toppled tora gate and suchlike, when there is so much human tragedy going on.

People losing their lives is what concerns me, full stop.

I am sure Ravi means no offense.

My prayers for those who were affected.
japan as a whole can recover well...but the individuals affected provably will carry the trauma and sadness of losing love ones in this tragedy for the rest of their lives...my sincere condolence.

Howzit All,

My prayers go's out to the people of Japan.

It's been 13 months since the last Tsunami in February of last year and that one did not turn into anything. This time we had a 6 foot wave hit the harbor. I just spent 20 hours working to clear up the debris of the road. Not to much damages and everyones O.K. But I have a feeling that three times a charm. We may get hit with a big one. Sad Sad

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Japan. My heart sink further when I read report that 10,000 people from Miyagi Perfecture are unaccounted for. We only have this planet. We must help each other and make the best of it.

It is rather difficult to express thoughts and emotions through a few words. I am told that the toll has crossed 1000. My prayers for the bereaved families have only intensified. When I did mention bonsai it was NEVER at the expense of human lives. It is not a choice between the two. Infact given a choice I'd most certainly pick human lives over bonsai. Those who know me better(like a few here at IBC) would know. I hope I am allowed to mourn the lives of priceless bonsai ALONG with the MORE priceless lives of thousands who have lost their lives..... Sad

Mahalo Todd,

We been having good practices. Back in February there was an earthquake I think in Chile and and we had a chance to see all the state agencies work together to get the ball rolling. Now with this one everybody knew what to do and the people seem to know where to go. But there comes a day when it really hits and we see how well prepared we are.

Ravi, I thought about the things that I love when I heard the news of the earthquake. I was shocked when I heard the first story. I thought about the bonsai, too, during the first news footage; the countless greenhouses that just DISAPPEARED with everything else in the path of the Tsunami. I thought about the lives lost and destroyed. I thought about the years of work that bonsai growers lost in our Mother Earth's fury. Life is precious. We are allowed to mourn everything that was lost. I am sure the others who reacted as they did, were in shock due to the calamity of the news.
Best,
Todd
