Maybe, someone will find this interesting. Language spoken...english (at least the official part of the video that deals with technics and discussing material)
I explained everything on the blog:

Oh, you are using the puller?! See how the good ways are easily spread Smile
That's the essential tool for collecting in areas with lot of rocks and stones and it shortens the time needed to complete the dig considerably. I only cut a few surface roots. We have a name for the puller...we call it "12", because it works for 12 strong men Smile
There are better and stronger models of 12, but are also heavier, so this one is a good compromise. It has a pulling strenght of 2,5 tons.

yes, same as mine. I use a flat towing strap with hooks at both ends. 10,000 lbs pull strength. flat strap is easy on the bark. I use mine to pull casuarinas from solid coral.

best wishes, sam

Sebastian,
Very nice video!! This is exactly the same terrain my elms come from....sometimes even scorpions. It is VERY hard work to dig. Sometimes we get lucky and the tap root is not deep. My friend Chris aka "Chappy" dug one that was quick and easy!

The 2nd big one took us 4 hours. I will be buying the puller this year for sure...great idea. I also bough at cordless sawzall. We are ready to collect in about 3-4 weeks.

Yes, I have similar saw at home and it's a great help but, I think that it is just to heavy to carry on the collection site.
I'm happy that you like the video Very Happy

Bob, in areas where we collect orientalis there are thousands of wild boars (wild pigs) and they can be very aggresive and dangerous. The hunters are hunting them all the time but, it seems their population is keep on growing.

And I thought rattlesnakes were bad....makes sense now, though I'd think a large caliber rifle would work better.. Very Happy

Oh yeah, snakes are a problem too, that is the reason we never collect during hot summer months. When we are collecting Pinus mugho in the mountains, we have also a problem with bears, and that is what we fear the most. Fortunately, there was no close encounters...yet affraid affraid affraid

Bears? They'd have to be some incredible trees for me to think about risking an encounter with a hungry bear, who is recently waking up from their winter nap.I'm grouchy when I first wake up I can only imagine a bear. It seems like you have some great material for collecting, I'm definitely jealous now...
