Hi Milan... Commenting on mizutamari-ishi "waterpool stones" (p. 28) in his recently distributed book An Introduction to Suiseki (translated/adapted by Wil Lautenschlager), Arishige Matsuura notes:
Only clear water should be put into the hollow area that makes the pool, with no unnecessary colorants or additives mixed in. These stones are also best viewed in a suiban due to their association with water, though viewing them on a daiza is also acceptable. When displayed on a daiza, however, mizutamari-ishi are best viewed dry, without water in the depression. To put water in the pool would risk getting the daiza wet, which could result in warping the wood.
