Hi Jun
This is the first time that I have seen the result of deadwood treatment on a casuarina. When I saw the raw wood I thought that it was going to look 'unsympathetic' with the rest of the natural deadwood. But your work ,after the burning and scraping, gave the newly created deadwood a very natural look. I agree with you to have decreased the deadwood; it was too much way out.

Are you going to make two main 'clouds' of green or one whole green pad?
When do you shorten the 'leaves' to make the foliage more pleasing?

Congratulations for the good work and keep us posted.

As regards the pot, I think a greyish hexagonal pot for cascades, with simple relief, will do fine. Better if it goes down with curved lines and not straight ones.

Hi Cosmos.
thanks. This is the first time I used this technique of over burning and scraping dead wood. It would have been easier if I used lime sulfur on the natural deadwood and to the new deadwood...but I really don't like white color on tropical trees. I'm glad you like it.

with regards to the foliage- I'm planning to have two major foliage one on the canopy and on the tail and two more smaller pads, one in the front and one between the two main pads...but we'll see what the tree wants.

thanks for the pot suggestion.

regards,
jun Smile

Hello Jun. I like what you have done with the new deadwood but it still looks a bit flat to me. Some deeper carving will bring it together with the natural deadwood.

Ha ha ha, Morning Jun,

just coming back on-line. Thanks for the laugh.

I like how you kept the foliage natural. I was at a plant nursery on Tuesday and took the time to really look at their casuarinas, I think they were equisetifolias [ spelling ?], your own fits my memory very well.

The deadwood, I figure you will refine a bit more as your mind relaxes on the overall effort. Will be watching to see how you go in the future.
The distance shot with you in it makes the most sense as it is easiest to see the entire tree, the close-ups can be a bit confusing.

Thanks for showing, this is especially helpful as I am just starting to try casuarinas, and we have no access to anything in the wild, so it is pencil thick trunked plants and lots of patience.
I can enjoy your work.
Later.

equisetifolias [ spelling ?]

No "s" -- even for a plural. <g>

Hi Khaimraj
Even us do not have access to yamadori casuarinas but we are trying with air-layers and growing seedlings in the ground (they really grow wild here and in just two years I already have got 8cm trunks).

Hi Jun
Nice pot it suites the tree well. I like it. It has nice lines, but I would have prefered a light grey pot.

thanks a lot!

John,

thank you!
I'll address the deadwood issue in the near future when the tree recovers.
I'll try to "penetrate" deeper with my tool...hehehe.

jun

Looks fantastic Jun Maybe one day I will find material like this.
I wonder in the area circled if you could take the branch around the back of the jin and also lift the bottom branch up a little.

Hi Brett.
..sorry I didn't understand what you meant by " take the branch around the back of the jin"--do you mean remove it or bring/move it somewhere else?

with the bottom branch, I'm planning to have an extra foliage pad in that area, when the secondary branches developed horizontally. moving it up will make the area over crowded and might appear too heavy, Casuarinas "leaves" developed very differently.

jun

Much the same as it is Jun but just wrapped around behind the jin that it is now in front of so we can see it. I think this jin would create a nice line with the deadwood/jin above it shown in green.
I thought you might have different idea with the lower branch but I was thinking raising it would accentuate the nice line in contrast to the main jin and the now connected jin with branch wrapped around back. Not the best mud map but hopefully you get what I mean now!

Very clear now Brett? thanks!

that jin underneath would create an added attraction, plus the one near on top left of your red circle at the back ,, but I don't want to create a full view of the two jins, just a slight hint (patially visible) of the jins for the viewer to bend down a little and peek at the back for a for the added attraction.

Hi Jun,I like this tree very much.
I made a virtual for you, with this little change on the lower-part off the deadwood and removing the distracting jins on the right, the tree becomes more in balance and not so compact Very Happy
I hope you like it also.

Hi Ed.
thanks for the virtual. I love it, the reduction of the upper part of the jin can be done, but the lower part is a living/active bark that supplied the back foliage...so no can do for that area.
