Sierra Juniper planted in a rock. Shikishi of Daruma Buddha. Succulent flower.

I like your composition Mike. The Shikishi is intriguing to me. I'm not familiar with this, but the face holds me captive. The scroll mimmics the tree. I like the succulent flower (Christmas Cactus?). Did the suiban come with the dark glazed bottom or did you color it somehow? I like the contrast.
Best, Todd

Hi Todd
Thanks for your comments. The suiban came as you see it. The succulent is a Christmas Cactus.

A very good and pleasing composition Milke. I should say that the whole thing is very striking in its simplicity. Great work.....

I like each component individually....Suiban is Sou style...is the tree styling classified as sou too?

Hello Mike. Shouldn't the accent be at the front corner rather than the back?

Will, I would say that on a normal size display area, the accent would be more to the front. In this case, I think the perspective would be compromised by moving the accent, because the suiban is too large to allow the accent to be moved to a more proper position.
I have a table that would be better sized for this display. If I work up some ambition, I'll drag it out and redo the display.
