Help!!!!!!
Hello all you fantastic potters out there. This Elm is in desperate need for a new pot. Recieved an email from Steve Tolley saying it's been selected for the Best of British and I'm not happy to show it in its present(overly deep) training pot. The trunk is 5" (130mm) wide and the height from root to apex is 8.5" (220mm). I know it is short notice but can anybody help......Please.

Will, if this ( my last reply in https://ibonsaiclub.forumotion.com/t2388p30-from-the-sansai-kiln ) is gonna have an acceptable result, than I could have a good pot in these dimensions for You.
Beautiful tree btw :-)

Re: Help!!!!!!
Hello Will
I would love to give a pot to you but my boards are empty...and we will start the new glazing no earlier than in march! A lot of bisqueware is waiting and Martin is "muddy " too...!
Anyway I like to recommend a very very good (machinemade ) pot by Andy!
It always is a matter of one's personal taste but IMO this one suits an elm very well!
Kind regards
Klaudia

Re: Help!!!!!!
Nice pot suggestions, but I'm confused. I see a semi-cascade, so I don't understand all of the non-round/square offerings. I like what it's in, just not so crude and chunky. Those 3 unglazed pots of Peter's are what come to mind for me. Will, what do you see?

Re: Help!!!!!!
Hello all and thanks for the great ideas. As Russell says, I would like more of a semi cascade style pot. A straighter sided round, slight oval or rounded edged square. Muted earthy but light glaze. Off white/grey speckle and perhaps crackle. A tall order at short notice maybe?

Re: Help!!!!!!
Will,
Wow, lovely tree, great form and character
You are in quite the predicament, I see, and being quite busy with commissions at the moment, I can unfortunately offer you ONLY my 2 cents.
I love the trunk, its shape, fissures, texture and visual 'weight'. Such a trunk requires the balance of grace, with a feeling that it has totally FILLED up its pot. The han-kengai with a lip (like Peter's 4th) would greatly do this beauty justice in my opinion. I think you are on the right path with the greyish color, as it is to be presented out of leaf.
The canopy should also be balanced to the pot, and neither overpower it, or underscore it. If the pot is too big, the canopy becomes diminished in the composition. Too small, and it may seem as if it will fall over from the weight. As I am SURE you know, size is everything.
Well, I am pretty sure this is too little to late, but I wish you all the best. This again, is a tree that warrants a handmade pot.....
Hope it helps,
Rob

Re: Help!!!!!!
Will
My two penneth
Could get one made but might be a bit tight for BoBB, as long as its not huge as drying time is a major factor. Trying to get another done for a customer at present for BoBB but its a little on the larger side. I got a tree selected for BoBB also and could do with a better pot but I think I am just going to have to live with it
Regards

Re: Help!!!!!!
Hello Andy. I'm loving pot no1 and colurs of 4 and 5. Inside measurements at present are 6 3/4" by 5 1/2". It could go in something a little smaller though. The depth of the present pot was only for development purposes and Elms cope well with root reduction anyway. Would you have a go at making me one Andy? I realise the time frame is short but this tree needs a special pot. Thankyou to everyone for your input, I really appreciate it.
