Tet in Tuy Hoa
Today is the first day of the Tet Celebration in Vietnam, as promised here are some pictures of what goes on here. After breakfast the sun actually came out for the first time in about three weeks, Choi Oi!!! I hope it lasts because tomorrow we're going down to Phan Reing to celebrate the new year with the brat's family -- I don't really want to ride five hours in the rain.
Lots and lots of itty-bitty Bonsai looking for owners.
Unlike previous years there were only about 100 pieces shown this year. Could be that the weather was just sooooooo bad.
This is one of the very few shimpaku's I've seen here and the only one shown. It was probably the best of the show, all the owner had to do was some cleaning of the pot and stand to make it a lot better looking.

A few more from Tet
Yes the brat had to have her own 'Lucky tree' for Tet. 2 Bia Tiger - 30,000d, her little trees (fukien tea) in a pot - 40,000d, making her happy - priceless...for everything else there's Agribank Visa.
I apologize for some of the darker images, the camera and I had a fight today about contrast and where to dedicate the exposure. Yep, the camera won.
This is looking out over the square and a lot of the vendors.

I wish some time there will be such events and celebrations here in Greece, too
I have one question though (irrelevant...) : Why most people keep their helmets on while walking and viewing the trees?

Wearing your helmet is a cultural thing. If you leave it on your motorbike it may be stolen, carrying it around is a pain sometimes. They also don't sweat like we do so having it on is not uncomfortable for them. They also wear them like a construction hard hat most of the time.

Great pictures, thank you for posting them. But...........another irrevelant question, why do you always refer to the woman as the "brat?"

Tet display this year
It was a very nice display this year and, for most, this will be the only time these trees will be seen. 'If' my big fukien tea had developed better I would have been the first westerner to display a tree...it didn't. Maybe in the future?
Ricky -- because she can be very sweet but also a brat at times.
It will be interesting to see what kind of display there is in Phan Reing.
Bob; who's time it is to coffee-up and hit the trail!!

Yes Billy, that was for 2 Tiger.
It was a long but decent trip, dry most of the way. I arrived with the mother of all colds so spent the last two days in bed. We're going around a little tonight so I'll see if this area has anythig like a Bonsai display. Thanks for the new year wishes guys and gals. It;s actually sunny and a little warmer down here so it's a welcome change.

I couldn't be able to recognize the place where I ran away 19 years ago.
Happy new year Bob.
