Haworthia Attenuata as an accent plant???
While at my local landscape nursery the other day I purchased a Bougainvillea and a Haworthia Attenuata. It was not my intention to pair them together, however, I think they look rather nice together. The Haworthia blooms pinkish white flowers on a single stem (for those who may not be familiar, a google image search will give you a better picture). What do you guys think??? Oh yeah, the Bougie was my first "styling" attempt. I plan on air-layering the top half off and using the small branch as the new leader (going for a shohin). You can't really tell from the pic, but there's about two or three inches below that small branch before the roots. Any thoughts or advice is appreciated as always.

I have been thinking of using succulents as accents, however the attenuata may grow too large.
some of the slower growing retuse types of Haworthia may be better. You could also try minature crassula

Keeping the plant in a small pot will retard growth and give you many years of use as an accent.

Thanks guys! I read that the Haworthias will sprout new offsets, and it appears as though mine may be doing so. Perhaps I could keep this one as a "mother" plant and use the offsets for display/photo purposes??? Like I said, I didn't buy the Haworthia as an accent so I'm fine with it either way. I've been interested in succulents for some time now and saw this one as I was walking past. I appreciate the advice on keeping it in a smaller pot, Billy, I might just do that. I'll also look into some other varieties, I've seen a lot of other pretty interesting succulents too!

Haworthia attenuata
I am an unregenerate purist. Why not pair the Bougainvillea with a New World succulent and the Haworthia with an African tree?

That's a good point. As I said, it was not my intent to pair the two. I put the Bougie on the counter and went to look at the succulents, when I put the Haworthia on the counter next to the Bougie and thought they looked kinda nice together. My tiny plant has a looong way to go before I think about display seriously. I was just wondering. Thanks for the advice, now I gotta find an african tree!
