Hi IBC.this is one of my early raft style...i want to change it into raft penjing and control the growth of the smaller trunks.

...but I'm so sure with the main huge trunk that merge with the smaller trunk on the left side.
other thoughts are most welcome.

btw the tree is streblus asper.

Be interesting to see the suggestion's coming in. From my own personal viewpoint the trunk looks a bit busy at the moment. You should look at getting some more simplicity there and then building the bonsai. She definitely has some character so with a little (or alot) of work you will have something really great.

A wonderful material Jun... Something to kill for anyday... Penjing Rafts are a personal favourite.

Once you clear about half the branches and give the composition its multi tree look, its going to be out of the world. I do not see any problem with leaving the bigger trunk and the next smaller one the way they are. They stand out nice.

Ravi

Tarmenel,

thanks for the suggestion.
this is one of my first raft. I had no idea on what to do with this material...up to now. I'm afraid it won't turn out as a "regular" bonsai Embarassed Embarassed

Hi! Jun,....i wish it was....June....grrr.....no soy de nieve!

My English is bad,...my Spanish even more horrible....

Winter in plentiful all over the globe bonsai,....paradise.....de wee keep the winter? ...Haha...

Ahh,...the tree...
I would say on first sight......static.
That can be a pro,....for now i would call it a no!
A whole lot is happening on the down field witch is manageable.
Them stumps witch grow above....they are static
I would keep the left one grow on lower the right one and shorten the right.

just an opinion,......

Grtzz from Holland , Machiel who is cold,.....in this chilly weather!

hi jun , if it were my tree i would not go with a raft style, but then again i,v always prefered small powerful trees . taking the second photo as the front take off all 3 of the big trunks making a gentle curve to the left towards the soil. take the right branch back to about 1 inch ,then use the remaining trunk which is off center to the right as the main trunkline , clean out that trunk taking off the thicker branch thats coming off it on the right . then you will have a very small powerful tree. but then its not my tree so up to you . kind regards john

Hi IBC. I finally got the mood to face this tree...
please have some patience in viewing because I want to share more details for this one..

the beef...I mean the rock slab...i love the reddish color of this rock.

for anchoring the tree later.
raft streblus asper Dsc_2219

placing the tree, cementing some rocks to hold the soil.
btw. I sliced the bigger tree to separate the two main trees

Wow! I've had mixed feelings about the material on first photos but... This is a different tree now! That tree undoubtely needed some fresh beef and greenstuf Wink Great work, You only have to put to order the branches and work on ramification now. In my opinion of course, no offend Smile thumbs up

Hi Jun,

Thanks for the update. A visual treat I must admit. The whole composition has got that aged, mystic and to some extent the "Lord of the Rings" Hobbit look. The small cave at the bottom is the icing on the cake. cheers

Going back and reading my comments to your earlier set of pics, I see that you have done pretty much what I had suggested. Great minds think alike eh Wink Good to know your thoughts were in sync with mine.

One small suggestion if I may make. Ensure that there is sufficient negative space between the canopies of the largest tree and that of the second largest tree. From the pics you have posted it is not clear if the canopies are clearly separate and distinct. If they are fine and if they are not, then you might want to separate them. Just a suggestion.

Overall a mind blowing composition and you seem to be surpassing yourself with each of your works of art.

thumbs up

Italiancopper,

thanks for your appreciation. these specie got very leaves a bout a quarter of chinese elm leaf, and would easily ramify. I'll post it again with leaves.

Ravi,

thanks. I really love that mystic appeal of that movie. I can imagine myself being one of the character...the "Gollum". now I will call this composition,,,"my precious"! (with harsh voice).

I wanted to have a single canopy for the 2 top trees. just like a regular jungle canopy.

Well, I'd call it a "stump" rather than a raft, but it's a nice tree.
