I got sent this Link on Ebay by a 'client' considering "should I buy this" posts like this simply give bonsai a bad name... and as for Yamadori... good grief!

Whilst there are folk out there selling CRAP like this we will never improve the image of bonsai. Crying or Very sad

Tony

Zero bids currently showing (19.30 UK time) oh, and totally agree. I have a beef with the sellers that advertise 'Bonsai' seed and use a picture (usually poached) to show what these special seeds can grow into; without intervention they just automatically become Bonsi ... sigh.

Did you note the 'secret location' reference?

Mike

Apologies, I missed the 'this' link. Thought you meant the Yamadori on the two bids.

Sorry Tomy. I promise not to bid any higher. Very Happy
I have said this before about ebay but you have to be foolish to buy bonsai this way.

It isn't just eBay. See my experience under Bald Ficus in Bonsai Pests. Somebody bought a rooted cutting mallsai at a florist and donated it to a blind auction. I hope I can save it. If not, the florist will hear from me. Perhaps it's just as well this tree was not bought by a beginner.

WHAT?

You mean those Magic Bonsai Beans I bought off the internet aren't real. Well that's just not right.

Just checked out the link, it says ZERO bids.

Wait. "bonsaiuk1". I do believe he's one of your chaps.

If he was a Yank it would be pitchforks, at sundown, pards. We're gonna have an old fashion Texas necktie party.

Heck it had 4 days, 11 hours left on the auction... think it will live that long?

I've seen thicker toothpicks than that Prunus. In fact, it might make a better set of toothpicks than it ever will a bonsai.

We usually style pines throghout the year, optimum time is from spring through to summer as the branches are nice and flexible.

Haha, what a berk! Anyone with a bit of sense would see straight through inane stuff like this.

Amazing that people have the cojones to post stuff like this. I genuinely feel sorry for beginners that get taken by these fools. I frequently see a van with a massive "Bonsai" sticker on the side of the road here in Raleigh selling toothpick Junipers. I've thought about stopping but the possibility of getting in an argument with some fool doesn't interest me.

Good luck to everyone on this Bonsai Journey. It's a beautiful art and I'm glad to be involved in it.

There wouldn't be anything wrong with these listings if the first mentioned "starter scots pine" and second one "stick in a pot" for sale. Unfortunately, the use of word "bonsai" in the sale inflated their price and elevated the little things to a unrealistic level.

That second one is a nice stick in a pot though Shocked

You just have to know more about sticks in a pot ya know...

Yeah, but the sellers aren't targeting folks with even a "bit" of sense. These days, those seem to be in the minority, anyway.

The scary thing is the seller has a feedback total of 1496 @100%.

Although recent auctions are marked as private, if you scroll down the feedback record you can see many trees being sold previously- some of them going for well over £100. affraid

It is always "Buyer beware" with online purchases. I think if a site/vendor (eBay included) has good photos of the trees, then the buyer can be assured of what they are getting. You're right about the newbies - they are the ones who don't know any better and take everything they read or see at face value. Certainly there is nothing wrong with buying seedlings or cuttings in pots. Honest reliable vendors will call this kind of material "pre-bonsai" or something to that effect.

not wrong Todd, my brother in-law bought a yew sapling in a little bonsai style pot and reassured me it was ok because it had a tag stuck in the soil that read 'genuine bonsai'.
