hi everyone, i've been visiting this forum everyday for quite a while now, thought i should make a post.
this is my scots pine that got it's first styling in early autumn. i think i've looked at it too much and now can't see it from fresh eyes so any pointers would be gratefully received.
the jins at the top and bottom aren't finished and i'm unsure what pot it should end up in.

Welcome to IBC. and a happy new year to you!

If you really want a fresh input on your tree...IMHO and if these were my tree, this would be perfect for a semicascade or full cascade based on the true form of the nebari and the trunk inclination. this I think is the real form of the tree.

hi jun and happy new year to you,
it's hard to see from the pictures but the two branches this tree is made from are both growing from the very top of the tree, i see what you mean about cascades but it would have been hard to pull off, i'm happy with the basic shape and wouldn't want to completely restyle it. just looking for input on how i could improve on what's here.
cheers, jim.

i think this picture should explain what i mean about the branches. taken from the left if you are looking at the original pictures.

Ok Jim.
It's just my Idea, but a few few more refinement will do... the tree got the character and it will turn out even better in a proper pot. don't worry the virtual and pot experts in the forum will provide you with realistic solutions as soon as they read your post.

regards,
jun Smile

Hello Jim and welcome. I really like what you have achieved with this Scots Pine. As you say, the foliage is too far from the base to make a good cascade and I think your solution is excellent. Is this a French Sylvestis?

I like the idea of only retaining the foliage on the left of the trunk line or moving the apex down further. I can't so virts, but I think a smaller crown positioned left of the trunk would bring the trunk out more. Kind of a semi cascade.

Nice tree though. Happy new year.

Great result! I would like to see the right hand branching and left hand jin a little shorter to accentuate the size and curve of the trunk. A little more negative space on the right helps avoid an obvious triangle which makes the tree too balanced IMHO

OK so here's my first shot at editing a photo.
Here's what I see as a good direction.

thanks for your replies.

will, thanks and yes it is a french sylvestris.

neil and marko, thanks for your ideas, that jin is far too big and i'm going to sort it when i get a chance. i'm liking what you're saying about it being too balanced, i have already reduced the right side but i was scared to go further, the curve of the trunk is one of it's finer features and should be highlighted. you've given me something to think about.

anyone got any pot ideas?

Hello again Jim. As a first styling, you have created a compact image. I wouldn't do ant more for the moment. You will have further opportunity to make this tree more compact as you get it to back bud and with future wiring. You have plenty of time to make design decisions. Very Happy

Great work Neil, I would like to look at a picture of the side after styling to see how close the branch was brought to the trunk.
According to your nick I assume you have a lot of Oak trees to show us.
Best Regards.
