Hi Forum ! It's my pleasure to join you all here . I'm from Vietnam I'm a bonsai enthusiast. Today I'd like to show you one of my bonsai trees; looking forward to receiving any of your comments. Many thanks!

This is a one- foot tall FERONIA LIMONIA , a typical kind of bonsai in my country. What impresses me the most is its lumpy bark and I'm also kind of loving literati style.

The name is Feronia limonia (Swingle is the author, not part of the name). Common name in English is wood apple. It belongs to the Rutaceae & is closely related to Citrus.
Very interesting tree. Literati is usually about stark simplicity, & this is a very busy tree. You can reduce the canopy, but I don't know about that screaming fascinating bark. I will defer to the experts.

I agree with Iris that its a bit too bulky and full for a Literati but never the less, is really well designed and I just love that bark. Very Happy

Great Bonsai, I also agree with Will and Iris a little too bulky, this will be my approach:

Pot is Tokoname #65A50-57

A literati bonsai Final10

I like it to be my first virtual lol!

Nice tree. But to my mind it is not Feronia limonia, but Feronia lucida. Feronia limonia has bigger leaves.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Sweet tree.

Even with this beautiful rough skin, it is a lovely feminine tree! It might be a bit to full to be a true? Literati, but I think that the to low angle from witch this picture is made, hides the open spaces that are there between the branches. A picture made from 25 cm/ 10 inch higher or so, would make the tree look much opener/lighter. But any way, I like it a lot! Very Happy

Very beautiful tree. I'm new to this art, and I guess I'd agree that it doesnt fit the "rules" to be true literati. Nonetheless, I wouldnt change a thing about it. The long, femenine, sinuous, but still tapered and rough trunk is awesome. I like the canopy the way it is. Maybe, technically it's not literali, but beautiful the way it is.

Hi.
This is a very aged looking lovely tree. If it were my tree i wont change it a bit. what would I probably do is not to name it as literati.

jun

A very nice tree indeed. I do have a tree of the same species but not half as good Sad Nevertheless, congrats on such a wonderful tree.

I agree with Hans, the if the tree could be photographed again from a more elevated position than the current pic, then it would show the tree from a better perspective.

I also agree with Jun on naming the style. While technically this tree does qualify (by the rule book) as Literati, if this was my tree, then I'd probably call it the "TREE STYLE" Very Happy

I would call this 'informal upright', and it looks amazing as it is. Please don't remove anything!

Besides, the 'literati' or 'bunjin' style should be reserved for conifers. In my opinion, it is extremely difficult to make a convincing literati from a broadleaved tree. ThumbsUp

This pic was taken from a higher position as Hans van Meer's suggestion and maybe looks lighter now ? I also think I should call it an informal upright to be more exact ?

My own feeling is that I'd leave the foliage as it is. Sure, the reduction as suggested in the virt would be nice, but it would make this tree look like so many other literati. I'd leave it with its own distinct character as it has currently.

The only thing I'd consider doing (if the root ball allows it) is putting it in a shallower pot, but with the same shape as its current one.

A nice tree to have in your collection in any case.
