Very nice trees Mike.
I've never heard v of a purple leaf elm. Is it Chinese or american. Do you have a picture with leaves. I'm kind of an elm collector and I want as many different kinds I can get my hands on. Looking into variegated varieties also.

Hi M, It's new buds are quite purple but later fade to a dull olive green. I believe it's a cultivar. U ''Purpurea'''?

JOKING - great stuff michael... almost renders all discussions about style in another unnamed thread as moot...
(in other words: beautiful trees do not need to be labeled and tagged as a certain style... they just "are" )

Mike, some great trees there thanks for posting.

The Elms are particularly appealing to me but the rest are also very nice. That Cotoneaster raft looks interesting too. They're underrated as a flowering species I think.

Oval pot next spring?...

Thanks all for + comments. I would like to hear negative ones too! One day I will get a less crappy camera and actually learn how to photo properly. I like the way the English elm is developing too but it's a very frustrating tree in that it does not continue growth after the first spring flush no matter what I do. Feed it heavily...nothing, trim...nothing, defoliate....it does not re-shoot! So I can only add 1/2 an inch or so each year. If anyone can shed some light as to why, I would be forever greatful! It is my only deciduous tree that behaves this way.
Alain, yes I agree an oval pot would be the way to go.

considering the way some elms grow, that could be a good thing

My favorite tree is ... all of them.  I spent 20 minutes staring at them. If I had to pick one though, it would be the last elm.  It's a tree I could see on my drive to work.  Thanks for sharing.
