Started this one 3 yrs ago,had to clean a very large cavity first with the pressure washer, this tree loves growing here, which amazes me seeing as it most probably came from south Italy,it has also flowered each year.
Great species to work on,just add sun, water and food=growth and lots of it.

Hello Lee. Like the carving work and quick development too. Are they fully hardy, or does it need shelter through the Winter? How big is it by the way........The Myrtle that is.

it stayed out all last winter Will,-13 here at one point,i think our more usual damp winter may cause trouble but it looks like we are in for a series of cold ones,it's chuhin sized, maybe 14 in at the most, but seems bigger, soil is kanuma and akadama which seems a good mix for many med species.
cheers Todd

Nice carving, beautiful transformation.
One question: what is the percentage of Kanuma to your soil?

Thank you

Beautiful work on the deadwood Lee. A stunning tree even without the foliage.

I didn't realise they were as hardy as that. May be worth thinking about.....

Hi Lee,
I was lucky enough to see this when you popped into Burrs last year and I can't believe the progress.
Super tree mate and congrats on getting into BoBB. I hope to see you and the tree there when I pop up on the Saturday (I hope!)
If you're lucky, I'll buy the beers,

Thanks lads,I love it how people try to buy me beer now i dont drink, your all a bad influence on me.I've never seen the snore monkey run to the bar as quick as when i told him i'd gave up!
Many thanks Pavel, may try and get some better shots of the deadwood, has anyone got a opinion on the lack of lime sulphur on the deadwood?

In the outside shot the deadwood looks spot on as it is. The interior shots, for me, show it to be a tad dark. Just my opinion though, and it doesn't affect the beauty of the tree one jot.

I know exactly what you mean about the non drinking thing Lee. You'd be amazed at the number of folk who ask me on a night on the wee, knowing they'll have a designated driver to hand. And they still think I haven't sussed them!

The only reason I ran to the bar quick is you would have had a better chance robbing my wallet when you were sober Razz

Hi Lee,

Superb tree, the carving work is great. It looks great potted up.
I like the contrast between the deadwood and the darker hollowed out cavities. I think lime sulphur would make the contrast too extreme, it looks really natural the way you have it. Do you treat the deadwood with any wood hardener?

Cheers

Thanks paul,i haven't treated the deadwood at all yet, other than the power washer, interestingly when i repotted it i found a extra inch of deadwood at the front. The comments about carving from everyone are nice, this is my weakest"sport" in bonsai, give me wiring to do any day of the week

Hi!

Find a way to treat the dead wood!
Lime sulfer would do,...and then dont clean it....it gives some natural look.
You also can apply....black ink...or red....yellow ...any! with lime sulfur that is.

I havent found a good impergnator yet witch does give this shiny look....

Would love to see the tree in maturity!

Grtzz. Machiel...who is starting to catch up on his trees....patience and time does good!
