How I got my stolen Iphone Back... without the police!
We here so many depressing stories of theft... here is how I got my own back!
Yesterday My iphone was stolen by an opportunist thief whilst I was at a 3D conference at Bradford Media Museum, what the little bugger did not know was that I was able to Track him using my Ipad loaded with Mobile Me ‘Find my Phone’ App.
As soon as I noticed the phone was missing is started tracking. I could see that the phone was still in the building and put out a call on the Museum Tannoy, also sending a message to the iphone.. “I know you are still in the Museum, hand the phone into reception”…No Luck… The ‘phone’ then left the building and went to The Bus station, I sent a message to the phone “I know you are at the bus station”, I continued to track the phone for the next 20 minutes till it stopped at Spring Street. I messaged the phone “ I know you are in Spring Street” I then called my phone from a friends and left a message. “return the phone to reception or I will call the police as I know where you live” (I did not have the house number as the locator is NOT that accurate) but they must not have guessed that.
At this point I wiped the phone and hoped for the best. After an afternoon session at the conference I was informed that my phone was at reception… ha.. I got my phone back, I can only imagine what the thief was thinking when the read messages… Mobile Me ‘Find my Phone’ App… Brilliant!

Great Tony!
Id like to tell you about an incident which happened to me.
Me and my gf was going into the town, to buy some food. So I took the bike, with her on the back.
I took the bike into the shop, since I dont have a lock on it. Never used one.
I found what I was looking for, and went to the register. Put the items on and payed for them. While I was paying, I saw a girl take the bike, jump on and go away. With her Boyfriend running with her. So I gave the creditcard to my gf, and ran after. I found the bike on the docks. Lying there, with the people on their boat. Some rich folk that come here to have a good time.. I saw that they were pretty drunk, so I didnt bother to go further than having a talk to them and telling how lucky they just were.

Howzit Tony,
Great Story. I'm glad you got it back. If I may ask, what type of Mac do you have? I have a Mac-mini. I had the old strawberry iMac for 8 years. It was replaced with the Mac-mini two years ago. Mac's live long and die hard!!

I'm not a Mac fan but that is more because I am a (lifelong) pc rather than based on anything vaguely technical.
It is a really great story though, and Libby is right about sending it to Apple. I feel an ad in the making.

I started with the 'Fat Mac' in 1984... a whopping 512k of memory and no hard drive! After upgrading to several newer Mac versions, I switched to PCs in 2001. Apple certainly has led in many areas of innovation to the benefit of other brands as well. Wish I still had all that Apple stock...

I was working with two Amiga B2000's 1Mb of ram and no hard drive, as I couldn't afford the £1000 for a 1Gb drive! These enabled me to genlock titles and graphics over video, something that astonished me then and does even more so, now I know how advanced that was at the time. So sad that O.S. died.

Re: How I got my stolen Iphone Back... without the police!
I started with an Atari 520 which had fascinated me as it was the first time I'd ever seen a computer with icons and a word processor that didn't require you to enter codes to do simple tasks like make something bold. I remember my pals telling me it'd never catch on. Then again, most people only wanted a home computer for playing games on in them days. I also came across a box of floppy disks the other day and wondered how on earth we'd cope these days with such limited storage capacity. And storing digiital photographs! Hah! Mind you, we didn't have any digital cameras to take them with either.
Tell that to the young people of today....
PS anyone remember Asteroid?
