Eggs in the soil

Hi. Here the other day I bought a new bonsai. Its a small tree which I got from a gardencentre not far away.
Im always very suspicious about things I buy at these places, so I too the tree straight out of the pot, to check the roots. After removing a small layer of soil, i found an egg. Or, atleast I think it is. I dont have a picture cause I just flushed them down the drain at once. I crushed one of them, and some white fluid spilled out. I removed all the soil from the roots, and found a couple of big clusters with these eggs. I just checked, and found out the discription could maybe lead me to think it is ground beetle eggs (though they would be too big to live in the pot). Have any of you had this problem before? The eggs are about 2,5 mm long, orange/yellow. The tree is an Ulmus. I have bought several other trees from this place, and havent found anything like it..

I'm not so sure about Norway, but the "eggs" might be some form of a product like Osmocote, which is a time released form of fertilizer often added to soil in sursery products.

Hey Alan. Thanks for the response. It could very well be just some fertilizers. Im quite new at bonsai, and I dont know much about fertilizers. I was really stressed out about it.

Sounds just like Osmacote to me too. You can buy them as loose balls, just as you described, or as a mass of these balls that are initially glued together as a cylindrical pellet.

Thanks Kev. I guess its as you say. Ill remember that for the next time I see something like that. First that came into my paranoid mind is that it would be some superbugs from Japan that would eat all my trees, hehe.
