Re: what the best tine to collect deciduous
Hi Nguyen,
When I collect deciduous trees (maple, beech, hornbeam, etc) in the Fall, I plant them in the ground until the following Spring, then bare root and plant in bonsai soil in containers in the Spring. I find that Mother Nature protects them better than I, when they're first dug.
I would not advise putting them in a warm greenhouse. However, if you use your greenhouse for cold bonsai storage, the trees will be all right - if they don't freeze. I worked for growers who maintained a greenhouse at 33 or 34 degrees when the outside temps were below freezing. The trees do very well. I hope this helps! Salut, Todd

He's asking about collecting seeds.
I'm no seed expert, but the seeds of most maples do best when collected just before they fall from the tree. So when seeds start to fall, collect one ones that are still on the tree. They usually germinate best if planted quite soon after collection.

Yep Jim is right. I collect all my Maple seeds when the wing starts to turn brown and plant them in pots to stratify straight away.

I'm sorry Nguyen...I somehow overlooked your request about "seeds". I'm glad others were on the ball!
