Collected Oak Empty Collected Oak

My club, Sei Boku Bonsai Kai in San Mateo, California held their annual auction of donated material thois past Wednesday evening. The profits go to the GSBF Bonsai Garden, Lake Merritt, Oakland CA.

I aquired this quercus agrifolia for $100. height from base is presently 15 inches. Circumference at base about 16 inches, Sumo material. The main questions are what to carve, what to chop, and what pot to use.

I'll repot in February. There should be a lot of new growth by June.

hmm is it possible you could take more pictures from different sides of the tree? I would let it grow in a growing pot for a couple more years just to get more budding back and branches^^ it seems like you have a couple of options here too= 1. that second thickest branch on the left could be your new way to go cause you can get better movement... 2. the far tallest part of the tree on the right has no movement but could be another option for new apex etc.. but then you would run into a taper problem..but i guess you could hide it by letting a lot of small fine branches grow as the first branch^^then keep in mind nebari..allow roots to show to give the tree a look that says its well rooted to the earth... you got a nice trunk on that oak! Very Happy
