Hatanaka shimpaku
this old tree has been around for decades. i worked on several of them in the past. this one is done today.
it was left alone for a year. i feel that it is strong enough to be work on. old soil around the core is still there.
next year, we plan to repot it and clean out some of the old soil around the base.
first pic is before work
after thining old needle and some light cut back.
wiring is done

Howzit Boon,
Very nice transformation. I like how you open up the branches to see the inside of the tree. Well done!!

thank you Tim,
i just do minor pruning and wiring. the goal is to promote more interior buds.
once the inerior buds grow. we expect to have a lot of new buds after we repot it in spring.
i like to be on the safe side. no major cut at this point.
the good thing is that the owner has left it alone without pinching. it has grown stronger. i feel trhat i can work on it safely.

Love it Boon! It has a very coastal feeling for me rather than high altitude. I find it still dynamic but yet refreshing...
