Bougainvillea from in China 2007. Bought in the market in the form of a two-metre liana which has been cut off in the face of the surprised sellers on a purchase place. The first photo is made on arrival home.

After several months the bush has safely got used and has made the first attempts to blossom. It is made strong a scrap of branches, for studying of the further actions with this plant. The trunk bend has been chosen, the lateral branch, and the second top is cut off.

I like the tree very much, and you cannot beat this species for fast development. But, I think it could have been (could be) a better tree if you had cut it lower, right at the first bend in the main leader where there appears to be some inverse taper (narrow spot). With the nice lower trunk & base and taper this would be a POWERFUL short sumo style tree if it were made shorter at that point.

Just my thoughts, but as I said it is a nice tree.[u]

Thanks for your kind at formations of this bush, but seem to me a small trunk in kind sumo, not so would look against the big leaves. It would be not aesthetic. And to wait for strong reduction of leaves in our corner of the world, with the short solar period absolutely not really.

I agree with Yura. This tree needed a bigger trunk. People tend to make too much of inverse taper. Many trees have it, and it can be lived with or covered quite easily, as Your as done here.

nice job.

I like the tree very much. I wonder if the inverse taper noted by NeilD is merely a forward bend of that limb? Regardless, the foilage takes care of it, and one doesn't have to worry about the tree losing its leaves in wintern. I'm not sure I would like this tree as a sumo.

Good job with this tropical...how do you care for it in winter? Do you have access to a greenhouse?
