Who did you want to be?
I thought I'd get in quick, before Fiona got the chance to out me. This is about childhood/teenage heroes. Mine, are for the best part, wholesome! David Attenborough, Grizzly Adams, Six Million dollar man, Starsky (not Hutch),Bodie and Doyle from the Professionals, Clint Eastwood,John Pertwee(Dr Who), Noddy Holder(Slade), the list goes on. There was one that was tops for me but I want to hear a few of yours before I confess my sins.

Johnny Bower.
Unlike almost every other ice hockey goalie I see, I caught right and held the stick in my left.
I'm right handed - so was I playing left handed and every other goalie I see is right handed or vice versa?

Re: Who did you want to be?
Okay. Hee hee hee. I do so love it when Will runs scared like this. For everyone's information, his "confession" has come about as a result of a (very) late night three-way conversation on Facebook started by the lovely Bev Baddeley re 70s music and wall posters we snogged to soggy oblivion during that era of youth and foolishness - as opposed to the current era of adulthood and foolishness. She and I both fessed up to having mad crushes on Marc Bolan of T Rex fame amongst others while Will's pin-up of choice was Suzi Quatro. Thence came the "who I wanted to be as a child" stuff as Suzi Q was (and btw very sadly still IS) the person I wanted to be. It was, however, Will's other Iwantedtobe of choice that had Bev and me both rolling in the aisles with a mixture of extreme amusement and sheer horror. It also resulted in me having to shut down early (2am) and go to bed with a bottle of Tizer and a temazespam sandwich.
But being a lady (as you all know so well that I am) I shall not, despite my nocturnal threatening, divulge the secret of who Will wanted to be when he was a teenager.
But it really is so tempting and as the saying goes: I hate to pass on gossip, but what else can you do with it?
So, rock on Will. It's a very glamorous lifestyle.

I'll take a wild stab(since you said 'glam) Was it Freddie Mercury for Will. For rock stars, mine was Mick Jagger, Eddie Cochran, Dion, Roger Daltry. most were sports figures. As far as who was uggliest(scarey) from 'back in the day', I'd go for drummer Ginger Baker. Dustin Mann

Early on... Roy Rogers!
Later... Clint Easwood or John Wayne.
More recently... Tom Selleck or Sir Sean.
With Eastwood, Wayne, Selleck or Connery, you could go to the movies and come out afterwards feeling like you stood 6 inches taller and looking for a fight!
Then there is ALWAYS Chesty Puller! "Goodnight Chesty, wherever you are!"

Re: Who did you want to be?
Cliff Richard (when I was a wee boy) during teens it would be Tony Stark/Iron Man or Doctor Strange...oddly I did become a magician and was accepted into the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
Out of the teens then it would have been HG Wells, now there was a man with a mind and a half.
Moving onwards and upwards then. Well actually that is it really, although I would frequently wish my Father had allowed me to become a professional golfer, I played off scratch at 15 years old and had a 2k three year sponsorship deal lined up by AMOCO, (one of the senior peeps played golf and rented the cottage next door to us for 6 months) I still believe I hold the Junior Old Course record at Walton Heath (championship course) of a gross 64...and I was only 15.
From those 30's to date it would have to be Jack Nicholson, the man is a genius and someone who I would have loved to be like (assuming he is similar to his screen roles in real life)...OFOTCN was the film of films for me.
These days...? Anyone who is healthy and without dreaded disabilities.

Re: Who did you want to be?
Well done Smithy and Ian. My childhood hero was Paul Gadd, better known as Gary Glitter. "Shame on you", I hear you cry!! I had posters all over my bedroom walls, all the singles and would copy all his moves on Top of the Pops. You think thats bad, I went to see his Christmas gigs, right up to the age of 24!!!!! I must add this was all before the "Leader" took his PC in to have some repairs done.

Re: Who did you want to be?
I must say i was a bit of a fan as well. Not as far as going to gigs.I veared off towards the sex pistols.
I have a freind who slept with him. He used to like her dressing in schoolgirl out fits.

Yes I was once an avid fan of GG, his girlfriend of that time lived close by and my Dad met him once. We did see him at Shepton Mallet show-ground at Christmas...boy it was loud.
