what time of year is this anyway?

In a heat wave about 10 days ago, my quince lost all its leaves. But since then it has sprouted a nice new batch, including a few flowers. I won't let them go to fruit but as long as it was happy enough it make some flowers, I may as well enjoy them.
In May, a christmas cactus produced a batch a flowers following a cold snap. Guess those weather extremes can really create havoc.
