Re: Juniper progression
Now I'm beginning to like this.
Thanks Pavel. I was not at all convinced that the organised pad approach would work, but I think I see exactly where this is coming from. Interestingly, I initially saw the mass of the foliage down the left side of the tree, but now .... oh WAY too many decisions so early in the morning.
One thing I am noticing in the two virts is the complete elimination of the back branch. I think that is a vital first step.

Re: Juniper progression
Hi Fiona, I would agree with Nik on the second photo for a new planting angle. I think that both options are ok, however, moving the canopy to the right I can not see the way how to create a harmony between the crown and the main jin - on the virtuals I DO NOT like the crossing of both elements. Therefore (if you are convinced to keep the jin), I would prefer the option to the left (as I suggest on my quick virtual) where all three jins make much more sense and, consequently, more dramatic image of tree is created. Just my humble opinion.

Re: Juniper progression
Thank you very much for this virtual, Lukas. I said way back at the start of this thread that I originally thought that the new planting angle should be the way you have it. And your virtual is pretty much what I envisaged for the tree before all the new suggestions came in.
Another item for considering before making a decision.
Thanks again - appreciate your input.

A little tonic to go with that jin?
I liked the initial slant that you did, Fiona, but felt that the foliage/canopy would have to be trained further right to compensate for the angle change -sort of what Lukas has done with his virtual.
p.s. - no tonic, I just liked the word-play.

Re: Juniper progression
Pretty virt, but perhaps the foliage is still a bit too neat for a tree which "obviously" has suffered the vicissitudes of the wild weather on a mountaintop.

Re: Juniper progression
Both are fine by me but I prefer Lukas virtual. It shows off the best elements of the tree.

Vicissitudes eh? There are probably only about two people on here that'd use a word like that, and one of them's me. Like it, Jim!

The Vicissitudinal Juniper
Thanks to everyone who has made suggestions herein and do feel free to make more.
I have done a couple of additional things to the tree today, not the least of which being to unwire it as it was beginning to dig in. I'm offering up a "spot the difference" competition to see if you notice the other change. There may be prizes.
I'll probably let it rest up for a bit now as it has been recommended to me that major styling is held off until early next spring.
Here's how it looks at close of play today.

Re: Juniper progression
I just put it in the post - Royal Snail second class. You should get it by October and if you're lucky it won't have gone completely off by then. Well done. A worthy winner.will baddeley wrote:Can't wait for my prize Fiona....really excited

Re: Juniper progression
Beautiful design & virt pavel, you have found the rythm and balance in that tree. Nice material Fiona that is the way i would take it if it were mine.

Re: Juniper progression
Fiona,
The main difference between Lucas' and Pavel's designs [apart of the Photoshop work ] is the positioning of the foliage with/ against the trunk movement. Pavel's is more balanced and natural to me.
Besides, after you make your choice and complete finish with the foliage design, I think you'll need to fine tune the jins, especially the lower branch of the left one and the inner "finger" of the bottom-right.
I think it is great when one have a tree with some options, and yours is on its way to a masterpiece.

Re: Juniper progression
Did a styling on it yesterday and today as it was too miserable weather to do much else.
I have been "brave" of sorts and have attempted to be true to Pavel's virt. As it is, the foliage is pretty much all at the end of branches so taking it in as close to the trunk as per the virt will take a bit more growing. I have also kept some extra foliage on it as I wanted a security net in case of mishaps with branches.
It's significantly different to what I had envisaged two years ago, but I must say I am pretty much happy with the result. There's still a lot of bulking out and repositioning, but it's well on its way.
And apologies to Pavel as I promised him I wouldn't tinker with it too much over the summer. Sorry Pavel I'm a woman - when did we ever do what we were told?
Right I'm away to do other "woman" things such as find it essential to vacuum while the football is on and unnecessarily move furniture around just because I fancy a change.
Just realised I should have reduce the higher jin at the left side, and I think the drooping one at the rear needs to go as well.
