John,

Pemphis Acidula's roots are very brittle. Transplanting methods are usually conducted in summer and they have to be performed choosing one of the following methods:

I. Water Pressure

1) With moderate water pressure, remove the soil from the pot, bit by bit, until you manage to remove it all.
2) Carefully remove the tree from its pot and try to fit as much of them in the new container. If necessary, prune excess rootage.
3) Once the tree is in the pot, place the tree in partial shade and protected from the wind until new buds begin to swell. Move the plant gradually to a sunny spot or wait until a few days of consecutive rain to place it in sun.

II. Air Compressor

1) Perform the aforementioned method, only replacing moderate pressured water with air.

III. Additional Notes

1) If your tree is a seedling, it will tolerate root pruning with ease. If it is an older tree, further precautions have to be observed.

Kind Regards,
Jose Luis
