JUNIPER STYLING

I bought this juniper from NEWSTEAD in 2007. I thought i was doing ok with it..Pinching regularly etc.In Feb 2009 I joined the IBC and my Bonsai life was transformed, A year with the likes of Tony Tickle and Kev Bailey with Tony's BBQ day and several other weekend visits and of course there was BURRS.I had learned so much that I kind of lost my way with this tree. However..Because I couldn't get to JOB ( All hands to the pump at work ).I decided to just wire the from top to bottom and re style.Here are a few pics of the before and after.Please excuse the quality of the earlier pics.Only had a 1.3 pixel camera then.Any suggestions,comments,critiques etc are most welcome.Any ideas on pot colour and shape would be helpful aswell.

What a transformation! Your abilities have indeed improved, though it does need a new pot. Nice.

looks nice but i would loose the bottom left branch to make tree look more balanced

I would remove the 2nd on the right and left, then lowering the branches and prune a bit...........maybe ?

Looks good, a great improvement. I wouldnt change too much. But, I would maybe try to extend the shari up further along the trunk into the curve just above where the jin is at.

I will not be doing anymore work on this tree again till next year. I love your virtual though and will keep this image in mind.

Has anybody any idea on what type of pot I should consider ?

If it was my tree I would go with a round pot. I like the way it looks and where your going with it. Just MHO.

I'd simplify the jins as there is too much "going on" at that point and perhaps try to introduce some higher up in the tree.

A dark plain round primitive or drum pot would suit best IMO.

Here is an Update on Bobs tree after he brought it round to my garden, a couple of branches were 'tweaked' and the pot is a virtual, Bob done a great Job.

Great progress...

I like it very much...maybe only one thing what I would change if the tree would be mine...I would make the top a bit less heavy, or try to develop the top to the left side, whit some additional movement over the center of the tree.

Oh Yeah! That's what I'm talking about. That type of pot or a round pot with more of a straight sides would be cool.

Hi Tony .Thanks for the virtual...looks great.Cant wait to repot it next spring.

After some discussion it was decided to lose the bottom left branch.When Tony covered this branch it was so obvious that it should go. Kingbean suggested this earlier in this post. The bottom right branch was bent further down and brought in towards the trunk to make the tree narrower.A few more tweaks here and there..The Apex was ok and was left as it was .....Rolandp suggested making the apex less heavy.I will post a new pic to show this is not the case...Thanks to all for the suggestions.All appreciated.

Couple of coats of Sandtex would look good on the existing one Tree on the other hand has much future potential. Your work is to be congratulated.

I agree with Kevin, though. Those low-down jin just don't look right. Maybe a longer shari will be enough.

I still consider myself as a relative new comer to Bonsai.I am proud of my progress thus far.I fully agree about those low down jins.In fact they were cut back at the visit to Tony's garden.I will be discussing the further development of the jins and the shari with various Bonsai buddies between now and next spring.I will take lots of advice before proceeding with anymore work...
