Cycle routes Empty Cycle routes

Post  Kev Bailey Sat Jun 05, 2010 7:36 pm

Anyone on here who cycles may sympathise. I was out on my second fitness building ride after an illness and got stopped on the promenade, at a local seaside resort. The guy, in uniform, told me I wasn't allowed to ride there as it was against a local bylaw. This promenade in Llandudno is as wide as a 6 lane highway and is reserved solely for pedestrians. I researched it when I got home and found out that there is indeed a badly written bylaw and I am trying to do something about getting it repealed. Thanks Fiona and Storm. We are now officially a Crowd! For Guild status we need 1000 members that's where I'd like to be in a week or two.

Well there are over 2000 of us signed up to the IBC, so there must be a few more cyclists out there. Please join us if you can.

Thanks for signing up Harry. Yep it's a beautiful place with steep limestone cliffs and an old victorian seafront. Cycle routes Img_3010

As a matter of interest, do the cooncil eejits - sorry Council officials - allow roller bladers/skaters and kids in those daft heelie shoes? Much more dangerous.

Found this by the way but I suspect you'll have already seen it. There's a nice picture of that narrow and dangerous prom though:

Yes roller skates, heelies, skateboards are all apparently OK. In fact there were also five Council vehicles on the prom on the day we were stopped, including a bin wagon.

And this is the road the council want us to use instead!

Methinks it's outrageous to want bicycles to ride through that prom...

G'day Kev...

This AncientBonsaiStud rides a three wheeler around the ManufacturedHomeSeniorPark, daily. Does that qualify me to join in?

Yep.

I feel you'd be quite at home in Llandudno - all you need is enough phlegm to say the name!! Wink Wink

No phlegm involved! The double l pronunciation is much easier than you'd think. Just stick your tongue in your cheek and say le while exhaling. The l becomes a ll which should then sound almost like Flandidno. Oh yes the u is pronounced i. Most of the rest of Welsh is pronounced phonetically. Simple. alien

I'm wondering what a "Manufactured Senior" looks like. It most certainly can't be like you Pat, because I'm sure they broke the mould after they'd made you. Laughing thumbs up

And if you ever do have a phlegm problem, do feel free to come to Scotland and I'll take you on a tour of Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain, Airidh nam Beist, Uigeadail and Beinn a'cheo. We'll start off at Ecclefechan then head north through Auchentoshan.

Hi Kev... Apparently the town council is concerned that their promenade flower boxes are threatened with allowance of a bikers (or a bike lane). Flower enthusiasts may not be held accountable to reason... Smile

Reaching out to the "correcting grammar" crowd as well as cyclists, eh?
Position #1: The Bylaw is archaic and badly worded...
The Facebook site reminds of standing on a soapbox at Trafalgar Square... except with the caveat before joining conversation:
(This Facebook website requires)
Access my public information
Includes name, profile picture, list of friends, and all other public parts of my profile

Send me email
Causes may email me directly at (my email address saved in Facebook)

Post to my Wall
Causes may post status messages, notes, photos, and videos to my Wall

Birthday
Whoa! I'm also prompted to "Take Action Now!" re' the oil spill in the Gulf, to note "BP Murdered this Bird" floating with its feet pointing to the sky, and to halt (or slow) "Child Abuse & Neglect."

Causes require access to post videos on my Facebook Wall? Soon, BP telegraphs Exxon to cut-off my flow of fuel oil & gas stations refuse my credit card internationally. In my hometown (Richmond, Virginia, USA), the tobacco lobby joins the oil lobby and five guys with cigars camp-out on my front porch.

In defense, I create a causes' page on Facebook... Sad. Unrecognizable people on the street remind me that it is my birthday.

I begin posting videos on their Walls... Smile
