Oscar, there is very little in the board entitled General Discussion and Off-Topic Banter that has anything to do with bonsai. That is the whole point!

It allows people who are usually very serious-minded and honest and upright pillars of their communities to let their hair down (well maybe not Will and Jerry in that respect) and indulge in some light-hearted exchanges of opinions and views on non-bonsai related matters. This we do in an erudite and informed way.

Okay, that last bit was a lie.

To be more accurate, it's a board which allows us to participate collectively in what we call in Scotland "talking pish".

And getting away with it because it's generally amusing. Ah, you've no idea what we adults get up to in the name of maturity and responsibility!

Do feel free to join in.

Hee hee. You'll probably find it's advisable to have very little going on in your head when you land on this part of the forum. Laughing

It works for us!

Keep joining in.

And I won't hear a word against Sweden as a footballing nation: you gave Scotland the great Saint Henrik Larsson for seven glorious years.

Help ma boab!! I refuse to believe you two have led such a sweet, innocent and sheltered life!

It is a variant on PML - P**s Myself Laughing.

Peter, just as I refused to accept that Sweden are a bad football nation because of the Henrik link, I hereby acknowledge that your country gave Glasgow that other demi-god, Mr Brian Laudrup. I don't support either Celtic or Rangers but the presence of these two guys considerably raised the quality of the so-called national game in this little, as it is in footballing terms, third-world country.

I will be in the Netherlands (with my new-found knowledge thanks to Hans I can say with accuracy that I'll be between North and South Holland) at the time of the game against Denmark. I shall have to stay neutral.

But either of your teams is preferable to that lot in white shirts with the three pussy cats on them. Twisted Evil

My humblest apologies for my lack of interest in text speak. Can't abide it personally and will go out of my way to avoid it's use.

Cracked me up too when I read it Andy.

That was below the belt

Boom boom

Fiona

Sweden also gave us "Flopper" Thomas Brolin who was voted 2nd worst player in the Premiership c. 1997 ish when he was at Super Leeds Utd.

But to be fair, not everyone makes the grade or fits in first time around.

Diego " Why did Scu...... sorry Man Utd, spend all that money on him" Forlan being a case in point and 1st on the Uruguay team sheet for WC 2010

G'Day all you WildWorldCupFans...

Just couldn't wait any longer...GO TEAM USA!!!

I'm a relatively new "football" fan (I am by the way, an ancient FOOTBALL fan), however, I did see Pele in a game at the Oakland (Raiders) Colesium...Pele playing for Santos of Brasil...fiftysomething years ago. Talk about world class...

I'm not expecting anything spectacular, but whomsoever knows? TEAM USA is the new kid on the block...in respect to making it to at least the quarter finals...GO TEAM USA!!!

Howsomeever...TEAM USA finally has a home grown international star. He recently completed a "stunning" 10-week stint in the English Premier League...he got a lot of attention at the international level. In the USA he is being touted as the BEST USA born soccer player...EVER! You've heard of him, haven't you? Especially you Brits? I hear a lot of NOs out there. Well, let me introduce you to TEAM USA forward LANDON DONOVAN. Watch for him. GO TEAM USA!!!

Did I say GO TEAM USA!!!??? Well, just in case...GO TEAM USA!!!

Enjoy the World Cup...

Here's a prediction for you.

I say USA will win it within 20 years and BEFORE an African team does

Surprised USA didn't include Leeds Utd's Mike Grella in the squad. The 3rd tier of English football isn't that bad a place to learn your trade and has to be better than MLS Toronto FC.

And how can they leave goalkeeper Brad Friedel from Aston Villa out?!

thks

The only time my wife, Bev, Has shown any interest in football, was when Dennis Bergkamp was playing.
