I love 'em. Our home is surrounded by them. I have tables full of them out back. The mountains around us are blanketed in them.

BUT I SURE WISH THEY WERE A-SEXUAL!

Tree pollen is killing us all this year. It's the worst I've ever seen . . . er, sniffed, er, sneezed.

Probably weather related? Hardest winter for many years, late spring and now glorious warm weather.

Hi Jim, misery loves company so I'll sit with you a bit and we can commiserate. All the ornamental Prunus went off a coulple of weeks ago. The glands in my neck swelled till I couldn't open my mouth. Had to eat mushy stuff for a week. In a week or so all the Black Locust and Catalpas will flower. Ahhhh! They smell so sweet, but they make me weep. My eyes will water till the blooms fall. Had Bells Palsy a few years back and my right eye weeps all the time anyway. People always think I'm winking at them Wink Wink , sometimes I am. Wink Anyway, before I stray too far off topic, I'm curious what your favorite remedy is. I shun the otc drugs as I believe they weaken your natural immunities. Chick weed tea turns the trick for me. Mixed with a little mint (tastes like a mouthful of lawn grass) it's a great spring tonic. If the allergy hits in the lungs I mix in some mullien leaf, which is great for almost any respiratory ailment. I'm not totally opposed to popping a zertack or allerest, but what's in your medicine bag?

Alas, my remedy is to stay inside as much as possible -- which isn't often. I already have a rather obscure lung ailment and a messed up immune system because of it.

can I share my allergy? I am seriously allergic to the aging process (yes I am qualified -I'm in jim's age group). my left knee is stiff and sore, bound in an ace bandage from carrying heavy pots around the yard. I have an ice pack on my lower back from jumping off a waterfall with the grandkids on saturday. aging sucks, it REALLY SUCKS.

With age is supposed to come wisdom. Jumping off a waterfall when you are in your 70s ain't smart. Razz

I'd rather age than not -- at least while I stay relatively healthy.

yeah, I know. the doing of it is fun though. its how you feel afterward. I used to complain about how full my sandbox was, with friends playing with my toys. now my sandbox is pretty much empty.

I have heard, ingesting local honey over some time can help with your "local" allergies.

I too have this "catch 22" of loving what my body does not but, that can be said for a lot of things. Smile

I have heard enough people talk about using local bee honey that it must be worth a shot. The bees need to be as close to where you live as possible. At least in the same general area, like county. Ask your doctor about taking Singulair, if you're not opposed to taking pills. That's what I'm taking and it helps a whole lot. And does it without making me sleepy, which is a big plus.

I'm trying to get it over with early, so I can enjoy my time later on! That's what I tell everyone, anyway
Well, actually, I have mild Lupus (an autoimmune disorder) with arthritic pain, and a severe case of plantar fasciitis in both feet. Some days I feel as if I'm 95, but in reality that's a ways off.

My red truck has been yellow for a week now. Luckily we got a steady rain all night so it should be a lot better this morning. I've also noticed a lot more seeds developing on the Maples, I wonder if all this means that next winter will be nasty?

I LOVE trees -- really, I . . . Ahhh-choo! Empty natural barometers

Post  Geoline Tue Apr 27, 2010 6:32 pm

I dunno Jim. I am allergic to many things, but kind of always thought of it as a natural barometer to know what to expect and what to avoid to keep me and the flora at peace or at least in one piece.

Like a little dry skin and some joint pain equals: enlist the son to help cover the plants in packing peanuts and bubble wrap or with whatever type of suburban insulating materials are readily available for winter.

Sneezing with some skin rash and light curling at the tips of my very straight Asian hair for me equals: I better get the fungicide out to treat some of the flora before whatever fungi which have been activated by the moisture starts damaging the flora.

Then there is the lovely migraine in the fall which is heralded by harvesting fresh Japanese maple seed in the neighborhood.

Sneezing fits and watery eyes after winter melts into spring? Hey, it's time for me to take some antihistamines so I don't sneeze so much and ruin the grafts I am doing with the scions I collected in-between migraine time and dry skin w/joint pain time.

It's kind of like the same way my dog refuses to go out to do his business. It means he detects some kind of ozone disturbance in the distance. My dog is dreadfully afraid of thunderstorms. He won't go out at least an hour before or an hour after a thunderstorm enters and leaves the area.

I think plants have their own natural barometers in the soil, temperature, humidity, wavelength of light to trigger when to rest, when to fruit, etc.

Hugs to the grandkids,

I heard interesting solution:
eat honey produced locally. The idea is to consume bee made honey in off peak pollen period to stronger your immune system. It suppose to work just like a flue shot which you take when you healthy
