Beautiful, Boon!
This is truly my favorite time of the bonsai year. My wife thinks I'm crazy for just walking around the yard gazing at all the new little buds opening.

I work downtown and have at times encountered curious gazes as I pull down the branch of an urban tree to look at the new buds.

Boon, I wish I had as nice a place to wake up! But yes, buds are moving in central Ohio, USA right now. Repotting mania!

soon, spring will come to your neighborhood. we are just furthur south. Repotting is almost over here. Repotting season lasted quite a long time for me.-December to April. that includes my students and clients. I need a massage.

hi boon. years ago I had occasion to walk through your garden while attending a GSBF in Oakland. I came away from the visit believing you to be in the top tier of bonsai stylists in america. this is still my opinion today. thanks for sharing your work and your knowledge.

sincerely, sam lee

Lovely spring pics, thanks Boon.

Cuttings of Cedars are a problem because they are plageotropic. That means that branch cuttings will always grow as branches. Only apex cuttings will grow with a natural habit. I grew several for many years and they always grew horizontally.

Hi Kev,

Those are my first cuttings from this tree. Last winter, a strong wind got down a big branch and as I passed by, grabed the branch and got some "cuttings".

Got them in a pot and so far so good. New buds are coming nicely but it's too soon to be sure.
Here's the cuttings when I got them in the pot
