The tree is going to be photographed in a few days as I am waiting until it is in full leaf as the branches are so fine that they do not photograph well.

If you want to see what the tree was like when I dug it from the garden take a look Here

Hi Tony,
one day I have to see this beauty live.
My Escalonia is not pushing leaves, it guess its a goner.
Also the pot is really great with the tree, compliments to mister Pitt.

Nice piece of work. Good to have a helper.
On my Mac, the video was not in sync with the audio. The audio was way ahead - but I love your northern English accent.

That is some hunk of tree.
Too bad the nebari is so sparse - but that's common on collected material. When it has a full canopy it will look great and compensate for that.

John made a wonderful pot - has to be tricky to make such a large one.

Great video Tony. Were you disapointed with the amount of root after all that time? I hope thats the end of the dieback as well. A friend of mine had a big one like this, but he had nowhere near the experience you have. Over about three years the branches slowly died off. He was gutted. I had a look and put it down to compacted old garden soil, left around the crown but it was too late by then.

Fantastic! I love this tree and it's great to see out of it's box and into it's new home cheers

Tony - thanks for taking the time to put the video together and share it. Nice tip with the use of the stone to aid wiring in to the pot, simple but effective. It seems incredible that such a powerful tree is held in it's pot by only two wires and I guess with the nebari pretty much filling the pot, that adds to the stability?

Bob - next time, you should get a turn at holding the camera! Razz

And well done John on a super pot.

Great job one and all. I can't wait to see this tree in the flesh (in the bark? scratch ) again, and with it's foliage restored in all it's glory.

Matt. Very Happy

Escallonia repotting into Pot by John Pitt HD Movie Empty amount of root

Hi Will, I was happy with the amount of root made in the four years. This is a BIG tree but actually only 30% of it is alive. The 'Twin' of this tree is owned by David Barlow he planted in potting compost and it did not thrive, its still 'alive' but 95% deadwood.

Note: this movie took 9 hours to upload to YouTube Evil or Very Mad

Any advice on digging Escallonia? I attempted one and it did not survive the transplant.
