Wisteria in bloom - update

Post  JimLewis on Thu Mar 25, 2010 1:02 pm

I dug this wisteria in 1997. It was about the same size then, but bloomed for the fist time last year. I have a few fewer blooms this year (blame it on a nasty winter!), but it's still looking nice.

Dunno why they show so ^%$# large. They're 620 mp wide. Sorry. Click on them for a better view.

Beautiful! Brightened up my morning. Very Happy

I don't think they're too large(the pics) maybe too tall but otherwise fine.

Looking good, Jim! Curiously, your wisteria are ahead of mine as my wisteria flower buds are just now swelling. (Jim lives a couple of hours north of me)

The secret to that, John, is that I bring my wisteria into the sun room in February, sit them in pots of water, and force the blooms.

After I posted that, I figured you had likely forced them indoors...

Very nice tree and pot. Thank you for sharing it. What is the accent piece? Rock?, Tusk? Other? Regards, Todd

It's the tip of an elephant tusk, bought at the Hong Kong ivory market in 1951 -- well before CITES. And before someone asks, I have no idea what the writing on the tusk says -- probably: "For Sale, Cheap, to silly foreigner." The pot was bought in HK at about the same time. It is one of the very few blue pots that I care for.

I didn't think the blooms cold get much prettier. The leaves are moving toward the wildly out-of-hand situation wisteria find themselves in most of the year, but the blooms are as lovely as I've ever seen them.
