I have been a thatcher for 27 years but for the last 10 years have also been working for the National Probation Service. Firstly as a community service supervisor and secondly as a hostel supervisor, working with high risk ex prisoners.

"Tell us how you feel about that, Bobby..." Wink Very important work!

For my day (and night) job, I am a physician, specializing in anesthesiology, at a large teaching hospital/trauma center. I provide care for a complete range of cases with an emphasis on cardiothoracic and pediatric surgery.

I observed some peadiatric spinal surgery when I was in training. I thought it was going to be all subtle and precise but there was this enormous bloke using a mallet and chisel and there were chips of bone flying about like shrapnel affraid

Thanks for starting this thread Jaco – it’s fun to know the diversity of day jobs represented here. Some of them sound very appealing!

I run a charitable organization that acquires and manages critical habitats for threatened and endangered species. My prior career was management of botanical gardens and associated scientific collections.

But reading this thread I see that perhaps the ideal career for a bonsai enthusiast might be a retired freelance underground saxophone-playing psychiatric video scientist using horticulture to fabricate thatch and make rain.

I want that job…

I have worked in the Mental Health fields for over 15 years. I'm currently a Substance Abuse Clinician. I love my work; and sobriety even more! I worked for years in Public Television. I also tried my own landscaping business for a while. Great idea for a thread! Very Happy

Interesting thread. I am new to Bonsai. Going into my 7th month. This is my first Bonsai winter and soon my first spring. I am a member of the San Antonio Bonsai Society and its new librarian. I have been studying the Civil War for the past 6 years and try to get to Gettysburg every summer.I am trying to put together a journal detailing hispanic/mexican-american involvement in both the confederate(csa) and union armies.I've had some success in gathering info from decendants on both sides, copies of letters and a few pictures. I have been a musician for about 22 years and I play every weekend.I play bass guitar.Semi-retired nurse. Rock On!!

Dunno though, Steve. Mebbe John could experiment with these jokes (I use the term loosely) as a new form of anaesthetic and save the hospital authorities a fortune.
