Hi all.
This tree I bought in summer 2009. He had a very poor substrate, and a lot of mistakes. But here there are not many trees of this species. At home, I transplanted the tree and remove one very bad root. In December 2009 I made the first reduction in styling the tree.

Hi all. (continuation)

Tree full year 2010 grew very well. I gradually removed more inappropriate and thick branches, leaving only the young and the appropriate branch. Today I made additional maintenance and styling.

Pavel,
Here is some info on a Ulmus Carpinafolia that is in our National Bonsai Collection at the National Arboretum in Washington, D.C.
It was collected, trained and donated by my teacher Keith B. Scott ( which is where I assume Toms came from also?) . Keith collected MANY of these off an old estate in NE Ohio years ago along with his student Kelly Adkins. Most were chopped from the ground where they were coming up from a large mass of rooted seeds that had fallen around the large mother tree and grown together. Many were quite large.
This is a fairly long pot. I trimmed/repotted this one, and hundreds of others, while studying with Keith in the mid-80's.

I assume it's ok to post these links after reading all the data?

Dale

Hi Pavel,

thanks for sharing the images. Stunning as usual!!!!!!! I surely look forward to your posts Very Happy

Tom,
Outstanding tree. What appealed to me most was the Shari, the sparse branches and ofcourse the slab.... making the whole composition very very realistic thereby adding to the appeal. Exceptional work thumbs up

Hi Pavel,

Being a big fan of decidous trees I think this is a fantastic transformation. Congratualtions! Please let us know how it develops and what it looks like with leaves during the summer.

Jonny.

Post  marcus watts Wed Nov 16, 2011 9:29 pm

a really nice transformation and a lovely mature elm tree image, very nice - it was clear from the close up photo that all the small branches had quite noticeable deep wire scars though - are they growing out now or do you think they will remain on the tree in a similar way to beech trees ?

great and unusual elm, they certainly make good bonsai.
