Help style my Escallonia please?
Hello all,
Ever since I saw Tony's big Escallonia, I wanted to have one. Nowhere near to Tony's but I managed to get one. Not sure how promising it is. Would like your experienced views and comments please. I'd much appreciate if you could help me with possible styles please.
Wish you all a VERY HAPPY & PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR.
Many Thanks,
Faisal Waheedy

Hi Faisal, great piece of material you have there. 1st things 1st, the deadwood needs work, then you can start to think about wiring it. I find wiring and shaping best done during the growing period when you can allow the tree to dry out a bit to make it a bit more flexible, they are quite brittle.

Picture 5 is the front for me, Faisal. I agree with Ian about the deadwood needing refinement, before you go any further. Whats with the trend for eggs at the moment? Easters ages away

Hi Will,
Thanks for your response. Thats exactly what Harry Harrington suggested yesterday. Picture 5 as front. I do need to refine the deadwood.
I'll probably wait until Mid February before I do any carving or wiring. As for eggs, I couldn't fit a can of coke so I used an egg.
Regds,
Faisal

There`s no need to wait to carve the deadwood you can do it now, it`s dead it won`t affect the health of the tree.

Re: Help style my Escallonia please?
Hi Faisal... suddenly everyone wants an Escallonia
You have a very nice one that's for sure, Ian is spot on with his assessment, but do not rush into the carving! Many fine pieces of material have been set back years by shitty work. If you have only just got the tree, do no work on it until the spring... study the tree... study OTHER Escallonias then venture forth.
Pavels virtual is a nice solution, I am sure there are many others to... Wanna come up and work on the tree at my place in the spring?
How is the Yew?
Happy new Year
Tony

This front shows so much interest with just a hint of "shari". So much more subtle. The foliage is about right as well.
I will get my head around the picture issue.

Hi Tony,
Nice of you to comment. I've only got the tree cpl of weeks ago. so yes, I am going to wait until spring time. and study a few masterpieces before i do anything.
I'd love to work on the tree with you. Maybe a cpl of trees?
Yew is doing great. can't wait to see it in a bonsai pot with all the deadwood lime sulphered. Another year before it happens. Still have that multi trunk yew on my mind. Maybe when im there in spring. Will see.
Happy New year to you too Tony.

I really like this one.
If in the right hands it will make a wonderful tree.
I like to see it again bud take it easy.
Maybe its better to make a new tread for this one.
Greetings,
Cees.

I take it this Yew needs more time to establish before you start to work it? Have you any idea what you want from this Lovely tree?

Hi Will, Faisal must keep this tree for AT LEAST another two years in this pot before he considers any work.... Sorry Faisal but this tree is WAY OLDER than me and needs lots of TLC before you attempt any re-potting or work. Time taken now will reap huge benefits in the future.
