Post  johndeller on Sun Feb 26, 2017 4:46 pm

Heres a little oak i dug out of a garden wall about 14years ago. Ive had a bit of trouble deciding on the form it should take but im pretty happy with it for now (thanks to Bobby Lane for the advice).

Bobby Lane gives excellent advice - very good tree.

But what are you planting in? I like the colour but I am not sure it is free draining enough for England?

Thanks brendan. The soil is premade bonsai soil bought online. Its better than what it has been in for the last 10 years, but i'll be keeping my eye on it.

Does it come up black like that or is that just the photo? I quite like the idea of a really dark substrate that I can use for some of my trees - where do you get it?

Really nice little tree there! Lots of potential.

That soil doesn't look too great though! Still, if it's growing well that all that really matters I guess.
