Hello Kevin - I don't think you have an oak here. The leaf texture and position are not quite right for that. Is the plant potentially vine like? The leaf certainly reminds me of Porcelainberry (Ampelopsis brevipedunculata). Leaf shape in Porcelainberry can very greatly from deeply lobed like your photo to only toothed. IAphoto showing the stipules where the leaf meets the stem could be helpful. And particularly if there is anything flowering or fruiting.

david - i have only seen it the day i took the photo so no idea about fruit/flowers but since posting this a friend has tipped me off that it is most likely a white mulberry which is supported by the more mature leaves i saw on some others in the same area...

at any rate, it is at my sister-in-laws house so i will be keeping an eye on it now for verification

thanks for the reply !

Looks like porcelainberry to me. If it is, in fact, porcelainberry, you should be seeing the berries soon. They start off as green, cream then blue and purple.

Dig it if it has a good trunk, will make a cool cascade.

augustine and david... i will keep my mind open to the possibility of it being a porcelain berry as opposed to (white) mulberry and will gather more info when i can... thanks !
