I found this Hawthorn and dig it out a few days ago.
The trunk base is about 10cm weight and before the tree was about 250cm tall.
Not to many roots came out with it so I keep my fingers crost and hope it will survive.

Greetings,
Cees.

One of my bonsai friends told me that if hawthorn already has green tips of buds and you dig it out it means almost certain death to tree. But may be your tree developed already in pot, and it is than rather good sign.

I have dug Hawthorn when the shoots are opening and they have survived. Hawthorn don't always have a lot of root when collected.

On the Dutch forum they told me this was the right time.
I was thinking of root grafting but some people told me to leave it.
I just will give the tree every week HB101 and feeding on the leafs and hope for the best.
For the one's who are interested in Hawthorns on this site you can find a lot of information.

Hi! Cees bonsai isn't mecano or playmobile
Its good you want it to have room in survival adding roots/ would be sacrifice in balance.
Adding grafts you do on a good tree healthy and strong!
Funny i would have thought the same,....

Brew the pot little!

And yes nice tree!

Two years later the tree looks like this.
This spring I want to cut the trunk and make the tree much shorter bud I am not sure how short.
I am also not sure about the first branch one the right site, keep it, cut it, ore make it a yin.
Anyone who have any ideas is welcome to to share them a simple virtuel is appreciated.

Hi Maros, the absolute optimum time to collect hawthorn is as the buds are bright red rand ready to burst... a few small early green leaves is still OK to collect!

For me, cut very short he first branche on the right, second branche on the left , and the head is to build with the branche in the front , to compact the tree, all other lines are too straight and rigids.

Hello Cees,
I played around with the suggestion from abcd,
at the start it would look like this.
When is the best time to do such cutting back, winter or after leaves are hardened of?

This is a interesting idea.
I was thinking of a taller tree as you can see here.
http://www.bonsai4me.com/AdvTech/AThawthornprogression.htm
I have still time to make up my mind because trunk cutting should be done in late winter or early spring.
Thanks for the input so far.

Greetings,
Cees.

A very well balanced silhouette with a nice movement of the trunk, very good!

on deciduous trees, branches must grow to the top, not too horizontal direction, like pines for exemple , ans i cut the second branche on the left.

Nice virtual.

I understand your choice of removing this branch - after all, less can be more, can't it?

Even better like that.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments and especially the virtual, can I use it for my Facebook?
I was never sure about the second branche on the left, its probably beter to remove it as you point it out.
As you can see the buds are already ready to open while the tree never stand in a shelter.
Something to worry about?

Thanks again.
Greetings,
Cees.
