A (short) day with Suthin. An inspiring day.
If you live within a 3 hour drive of Suthin's bonsai garden, I'm jealous. I've known for a while that he is an amazing artist but to see his garden first hand, look at his trees closely, talk to him about them is nothing shy of jaw dropping. Luckily I'm in the area for another week and can hopefully go back by there if he can meet me there. In the mean time enjoy.
+10 bonus points to whoever can guess how tall the twin trunk Japanese Maple is in the blue pot. AMAZING TREE!!!!
PS - Suthin is having a sale and his photos do NOT do the trees justice. Neither do mine by the way. I'm hoping to go back in a studio setting. Seeing these trees in person reveals that IMO they're priced cheap. Most of the trees he's had for over 40 years and MOST of his stock is NOT listed here. Are you within driving distance? If yes get there now. If no book a flight, then rent a car and get there now. In either case, get there now.

well, first of all i call foul on the main shot of the tree as the height is reduced by the angle...Sam Ogranaja wrote:+10 bonus points to whoever can guess how tall the twin trunk Japanese Maple is in the blue pot. AMAZING TREE!!!!
only in a subsequent shot where the tree is somewhat in the mid-ground of the photo does its height become apparent...
my guess is 48 inches

Yeah, Suthin's place is just down the interstate, probably not even an hour. He travels quite a bit, so it's tough to catch him. I get your point about "cheap". Show quality trees for four figures isn't too outrageous I suppose. Still, all I see is a mutiny in my house, (and yours as well, I'm sure) after my completely outlandish justification falls on "un-understanding " ears.....where ya' at down 'dare? What could possibly bring ya'll so far north with all's us Yankees??
