Its that time of year again and I have the chance to put together a big display at this fantastic show, 10 mts long by 1.4 mts deep.
This year I have made a decision not to use the Japanese scrolls this way the Celtic Bonsai theme becomes more genuine. The big problem was what to use instead????. My son has been taking some great black and white photo's of Wales so we started playing about with the idea.

The very subdued back ground I think really makes the trees stand out I am more that happy with the result

The display looks awesome Chris thumbs up

I wish I could have seen it, I love the picture looking out of the cave at Paviland.

I like the photos a lot also, sometimes frustrated though when they were blocked by the trees. Maybe I must get used to the display style first.

Hi David, it is all about getting used to a new way, all the photos are of Wales and I do feel I am getting on the first rung of a very big ladder, I might get to the second in years to come!!!!!

Hi David
The tree you are asking about is a Hawthorn, its known as the "mermaid" the pot is representing waves lapping at the rocks. It was made to order by Dan Butler a great up and coming bonsai potter. it took 3 bags of clay.
The concept is all down to Lewis Findell one of our club members.

Well done to Chris and all who were involved. The black and white photos of Welsh landscapes were an excellent alternative to Japanese scrolls.

always appreciate someone taking the time and making the effort to share with us here on IBC. Thank=you.

Hopefully we can look forward to coverage of K-2 here as well.

While in my opinion, it is important to advance and improve bonsai display, I'm feeling the photos as presented are a bit overwhelming in their dominance and would like to see some changes next year to decrease that conviction. Maybe smaller sizes? maybe printed to the size of a standard shikishi board artwork and used with a scroll as less of a gigantic step forward
