MYSTERY PACKAGE ON MY DOORSTEP !!!

so, i get home from work yesterday and there is a package on the doorstep from lou's bonsai in florida...

and i think to myself: "self, did you order something and then forget that your ordered something ?"

to which i replied: "nope... pretty sure, nope"

so, feeling fairly confident that it is not a letter-bomb, i opened it up...











so... secret admirer ?
an enemy keeping me off balance ?
or just a friend do a very nice thing ?

i'm not sure what it is, but by the flowers i might guess an ixora ???

What a nice surprise Kevin!  Congratulations!  I cannot help with the mystery of "who" or "why", but I can assist with "what" - it is definitely an Ixora, Ixora coccinea.  I'm certain that you know this is a tender tropical species and will need to be kept indoors in winter.

i was pretty sure about the ixora, and from what i have gathered so far,
it is a 'star of india' ixora which is commonly given as a sign of friendship...

bring it inside when nights start dropping into the lower 50s, it is a true tropical.

bah humbug, it's an Ixora, but it's the middle size. There are three leaf sizes, large, medium and small.
An attractive shrub, but not the small ixora.
More research for me, but you can learn to keep it healthy.

yes, the cutting i brought home from florida was very tiny leafed, but alas, she did not make it...

this one has a much better chance of survival.
