cigar boxes
I've always appreciated seeing the custom boxes made for storing one's stones. I'm not adapt at making them, and budget wise, it tends to be down the list of priorities.
Recently a stone friend suggested going to a cigar shop and looking for a box to fit the hut stone. It was on my list to get to, but down the list.....
So at last night's bonsai/stone meeting, three boxes showed up in a paper bag and one even accepts my hut stone and daiza. I was so pleased.
When I thought of cigar boxes, I always thought of something wide and shallow. But these boxes had less width and good height.
fitted with a little tissue, it packs and stores well and I think a pretty good option...hopefully those in a similar situation might consider this option.

Hey Dick,
Perhaps a weird question, but why wouldn't you want to store your stones in the daylight on a shelf or something?

Re: cigar boxes
After 40 years in the same house, spacious lawn, fruit trees, vegetable garden, japanese garden and koi pond, I recently down sized in a senior's gated community and a manufactured home in preparation for retirerment.. I've not adjusted to the minimalistic existance but constantly repeat my mantra " a happy wife means a happy life".
All this to say I have no room and am struggling to organize proper storage places for all my tenpai, display tables, suiseki etc.
In my minature back yard I have wall to wall trees surounding a storage shed filled with bonsai pots, soil and equipment.
The bright note is I do get to take my suiseki out occassionally and view them when they are appropriate to my tokonoma display. The toko being the one thing I held my ground on as having to have in the new place.!
So your question is not weird, and my wish for you is that you never grow olde, and never have to downsize.

Thank you, for both the answer and your kind wishes
We are only as old and happy as we feel, and for you I hope you'll never be sad or old.
Kind regards, Tentakelaertje
