Hello,
Is there anyway to get a pine to backbud to compensate from dieing/dead limbs which was originally a nursery markdown.

My suggestion is to watch the videos on YouTube by searching - Ryan Neal Lecture Pines

This may help answer your question, although if the branch has no developing shoots on dying branches it may be that the branches that are affected will die back without budding again.

P. sylvestris will strongly back bud. First you will need to feed heavily - good nitrogen nutrition is essential for budding. Then establish at least one season's growth to build strength. Then, in following seasons, begin pruning to induce back budding and 'chasing' the foliage back toward the trunk. But, any branch that hasn't at least started pushing new growth by now is almost certainly dead.

All,
Thaks for the responses....i think i have a bigger problem on my hands than worrying about the backbudding.....i noticed the pine was droopy and not as green as normal and had dropped whole sets of needles and upon further inspection i noticed minute sawdust shavings on top of soil and it appears some sort of borer has infected my tree.......same one that hits the virginia pines locally i suspect. No No No
