EARY SUMMER BONSAI DISPLAY Empty EARY SUMMER BONSAI DISPLAY

An early summer bonsai display. This time featuring a rather unusual species: Berchemia, Berchemia racemosa, a shrub with vining branches, quite elegant actually. The bonsai is in full bloom now and also has a few reddish fruit which actually developed last summer.

After summer flowering the blossoms fall off and small brown buds develop. Most people think the plant has finished flowering and the remaining brown buds are trimmed. However, leaving the brown buds on the tree, through the winter will result in plump reddish fruit next summer.

It is displayed here with a dwarf hosta companion planting or also small bird figurine.

Enjoy early summer, it will not last long….

Hi Bill

This time you show us a difrent kind of display, from what we are used to, not flawless this time...

I prefer the bird display, as the hosta is a little to bushy for the tree, witch also is a kind of bushy....sweet an naive....having nice fruits
Is the table too fancy for the tree?...maybe a more quet is better.

Kind regards Yvonne

Thanks for sharing....I like the blue flooring and the pots the same colour....very cooling. I also appreciate the close up shots that helps us envision being there.

Having the tree in more of a natural growth look instead of highly refined/trimmed, adds to the look of the display.....and the sense of summertime/when the living is easy.... Smile

thanks Mark....I got wise to summac a few years ago at the then Weyerhauser Pacific Rim Bonsai ( now the Pacific Bonsai museum). On display is a twisty, curvey literati style with just the very top ( about 3 feet tall) with green growth. So I started 3 young trees less than a foot tall this year, and began working the literati look and movement on them this summer.

Really like this offering Bill. Am curious where do you find items such as this beautiful little bird?

Thanks again

Stores that sell knick-knacks, curiosities, oddments, decorative kitsch, etc. You just gotta keep eyes open.

Some somewhat similar frogs I like to use, alone or single:
