Hi, sorry if I make English mistakes.  I wanted to know the front of this bonsai because he lean back if I supposed that when I bought it, he was placed like this.  Also, I want your general opinion of this acer.  Thanks

In this first picture he lean back:

Hi Africantigerfish

Do you have a real and shorter name ? Smile

Your tree look nice, and it can have a good future as bonsai...hard to see what should be done now, when only Photos are available.
Show us the the tree again after the the leafs have fallen...untill then just fed the tree, and care for it.

Kind regards Yvonne

Nice tree. I would use the leans forward as the front for now. i would cut all of the branches back to where they fork - convert all of the places where the the branch divides into 3 (center and 2 sides) to a pair of side branches by cutting out the center. If you do this as it grows you will create many smaller branches and can then chose which ones to keep. If the first cut back thins out the foliage enough to show the structure you may want to repost a lean forward and side picture.

PS - You will probably want to keep most of the main trunk and perhaps some of the major branches so don't cut them all of the way back to create a simple pair of branches. If you do that, you will reduce the tree to a trunk and 2 branches which is rather drastic at this point.

At some time you may wish to select a different shaped pot with less depth. A nice oval the depth of twice the trunk width at the base would be my suggestion.

I like maples a lot. I notice what appears to be a beginning of thickening at the junction of the 2 branches on the left in the last pic. Were it mine, I would probably remove the smaller of those two to stop the increase in size of that junction.
