Nicely done! Here is the post from 3 years ago if anyone wants to search for it like I did: https://ibonsaiclub.forumotion.com/t4311-crassula-argentea?highlight=crassula

Tom, are the leaves only up high by design, or is it difficult to back bud? I'm curious b/c I recently started a forest composition with old wood(not argentea).

Thank you, David...yes, the foliage placement on this tree is by design....I have always found Crassula cultivars in general to be very willing regarding backbudding, as long as you leave a couple of leaf pairs behind.

Yummy.

Very very nice, ......nice flat canopy going......... turning into a real savanna tree,...

I love your Crassula ovata Tom, which is the new name for your plant.

Love and light

Beautiful. I'm working on one to. Also a flat top. Great to see the reduced leaves. Did they go smaller on their own or did you achieve that by defoliating it? Has it flowered for you yet? How much water do give it in winter?
Thanks.
Freddie.

Thank you all for the kind words...regarding wiring, I have snapped a branch on occasion....have to proceed very carefully. I have never done a major defoliation, but I do pinch out overly large leaves on a regular basis as they appear.....during winter I water only about twice a week. The tree is sited with my other tropicals in an unheated garage under fluorescent lighting during the winter months.

Best regards,
Tom

Wow, UNheated!? In Morgantown? It looks like zone 6 on the map. What temperature range do you get in the garage?

David....the garage is attached and the lowest temperature I have ever recorded was 55 F. I think the outside temperature that night got to -10 F or so. Normally through the winter the temperature stays between 64 to 68 F or so where my trees reside. Hope this helps

Tom
